Warwick Farm Winners - Tips For Wednesday 30th June

By Ray Hickson

Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Wednesday’s Warwick Farm meeting. Selections based on a soft to heavy track.

Race 1 – 12.50PM VINERY STUD HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

2. Firstluv made a very promising debut with a closing third at Kensington two weeks ago. Different set up for her here, inside gate on her home track, so she could settle much closer. Wet shouldn’t worry on pedigree and she has a good chance.

Dangers: 9. Falsetto trialled quite well before a forgive run on debut in the same race as Firstluv. She raced wide and on the speed there and wasn’t entirely disgraced to be beaten three lengths. Another drawn a lot more favourable and she can improve sharply. 6. Sneaky Paige showed improvement into her second trial to run out a strong winner at Randwick earlier this month. Commands some respect on debut. 11. Tanzimat resumed in the Kensington race mentioned above and she raced on the inside section which didn’t appear to be the best going. Had some specking there in betting and could also lift.

How to play it: Firstluv WIN ($4.00 TAB Fixed Odds); Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Firstluv runs third at Kensington on June 16

Race 2 - 1:25PM HARRY ANGEL @ DARLEY HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

3. Clemenceau wasn’t asked for anything series as he cruised around in second place in his only trial this time in. Won a couple of trials earlier this year quite nicely and should run well.

Dangers: 4. Dragonstone was an eye-catching trailer prior to his debut at Canterbury where he looked like he was going sweep past them early in the straight. Has to be better for that run and is one of the main chances. 6. I Am Lethal is a well bred colt who has looked handy in winning his two trials coming from off the pace. He’s another to keep a close eye on. 13. Retrieval trialled very nicely prior to his first-up effort at Kensington where he made some ground without threatening. Likely improver.

How to play it: Clemenceau WIN ($3.40 TAB Fixed Odds); Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Clemenceau runs second in a trial at Rosehill on June 18

Race 3 – 2.00PM TAB HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

7. Linguee looks a promising filly and returned with a super win at Newcastle coming from last to make it two from three. She handled a soft 7 to win a maiden before a spell and she should be strong at the finish.

Dangers: 8. My Ruby ran a handy race at her first run for Chris Waller back in December then wasn’t competitive in two subsequent starts, she was ridden upside down in the latest. Quiet trials and she’s one to keep safe. 3. Tastebud had her chance when resuming at Gosford but drew wide there and has trialled since. Can give a sight up on the pace. 6. Shotgun Alli can't be faulted this time in with a couple of nice provincial wins on soft tracks. This isn't a lot harder and she could measure up.

How to play it: Linguee WIN ($5.00 TAB Fixed Odds); Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Linguee wins at Newcastle on June 12

Race 4 – 2.35PM ADMIRE MARS AT ARROWFIELD HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

10. Duchess Adele strikes a fairly similar task to her last start second behind Kibosh at Warwick Farm and she didn’t give up the chase in that event. Showed she is capable of settling on speed in that race and a repeat performance sees her in the finish.

Dangers: 9. Peekays Legacy is coming through the grades nicely backing up a maiden win at Kembla with another strong one at Hawkesbury up to 1800m. Chased Wicklow before that so he’s a horse on the up and is hard to beat. 4. Unamerican was unwanted in betting first-up at 1400m and found line in a manner suggesting he could be in for a good preparation to run fourth there. Extra trip suits, might need one more but worth throwing in the mix. 2. Time Raid made a good fist of trying to lead all the way at Kensington two weeks ago and might be the one to take it up again here. Can give a sight again.

How to play it: Duchess Adele E/W ($5.50 TAB Fixed Odds); Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Duchess Adele runs second at Warwick Farm on June 14

Race 5 – 3.10PM CHINA HORSE CLUB HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

5. Matowatakpe has been excellent in two runs back producing eye-catching finishes from well off the speed. Drops in class, unbeaten at his home track and while drawn wide he doesn’t need to go so far back to offset it at this start point. Ready to win.

Dangers: 8. Derbari is always a chance in this sort of race, he did have every hope when a close third over this trip on June 14. He’ll put himself up there again and is capable of winning if the breaks go his way. 10. Daphne Jean impressed winning first-up at Gosford and she was right in the finish over this track and trip. Drops a little in weight here and a wider gate might be to her advantage given her fresh win. Definite chance. 13. Briars Kingdom jumped from a maiden win to a BM64 and got the job done at Newcastle last start. Harder again here but on the up and is worth including.

How to play it: Matowatakpe WIN ($3.90 TAB Fixed Odds); Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Matowatakpe runs sixth at Rosehill on June 19

Race 6 - 3:45PM XXXX HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

1. Hibiscus Lady is rarely far away and looks a good chance in a wide open race. Run down late at Kensington second-up and she’s more than adept on a wet track. Draws to put herself just off them and she should be competitive.

Dangers: 7. Seleque won first-up last prep at this track and closed her prep with a soft 7 win at Gosford, the two runs in between were sound. If she’s come back and gone up a notch she’s a big threat here fresh. 12. Arousal hasn’t raced on a wet track but she showed some promise in her first prep with a maiden win second-up and she wasn’t disgraced before a spell. Those runs were a long time ago ending January 2020 but recent trial was handy and she could surprise. 15. Van Giz is racing well and followed a good track win here with a close second on a heavy track to Bowery Breeze in a similar race. Sure to be around the mark again.

How to play it: Hibiscus Lady E/W ($5.00 TAB Fixed Odds); Odds & Evens: ODDS.

Hibiscus Lady runs second at Kensington on June 16

Race 7 – 4.20PM SKY RACING HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

16. Promise Of Success created a big impression at her Australian debut as she surged away with a maiden at this track and trip. Drew out there and had an uninterrupted run, drawn in this time but scratchings have helped her out and she's clearly on top. Read trainer John O'Shea's comments here.

Dangers: 4. Brazen Gem is a capable mare who is fitter for a first-up fifth to Gravina where she sat on the speed and weakened late. Only beaten 1.5 lengths there and is the danger. 1. Trajection probably wants it a shade further but does perform well fresh. Watch betting. 15. Undoubted is trialling quite well and has a placing to Blondeau on a heavy track here earlier this year. Will be running on.

How to play it: Promise Of Success WIN ($1.40 TAB Fixed Odds); Odds & Evens: SPLIT.
