Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Wednesday’s Warwick Farm meeting. Selections based on a soft track.
Race 1 - 12:15PM VINNIE THREE-TIME CHAMPION SIRE PLATE (1000 METRES) |
---|
6. Regulated Affair made a promising debut in late March with a close second at Kensington as a drifter in betting. Kept fresh and had a nice soft trial leading in, with the inside gate he’ll get every chance to go one better.
Dangers: 2. Bombay Boom has been in the market at both starts in open two-year-old races late last year and has run fair races. Back to a maiden and with a trial leading in he could show a lot more this time. 4. Equerry has had the one public trial and it was a sound one for a close second in a 740m heat. Well bred colt in the Waller yard and market a good pointer. 5. Fernweh improved into his second trial scoring at Warwick Farm about three weeks ago. Nash on, drawn okay and could show up.
How to play it: Regulated Affair WIN ($1.65 TAB Fixed Odds).
Regulated Affair runs second at Kensington on March 26
Race 2 - 12:50PM SCHWEPPES PLATE (1000 METRES) |
---|
1. Agarwood brings a big trial win into her debut and it’ll be interesting to see if she backs it up under race conditions. Scored by almost eight lengths in a 1045m heat, draws to be right up there and should be the one to catch.
Dangers: 2. Avon Calling scored a stylish trial win at Wyong a couple of weeks ago. She’s taken a bit of time but on that performance and with the inside alley she’ll get her chance to show up. 6. Litigate is another trial winner, she did a good job from the front to score at Warwick Farm in mid-April. Check the market for any push. 3. Bomb Perignon found the line under little pressure to be right behind the placings in her latest trial at Randwick. Have to respect the Waller/McDonald combination.
How to play it: Agarwood WIN ($2.70 TAB Fixed Odds).
Agarwood wins a Randwick trial on April 24
Race 3 - 1:25PM HAWAII FIVE OH @ VINERY STUD HANDICAP (1300 METRES) |
---|
5. Frankely Sublime was solidly supported on debut and while just failing she did a good job to finish as close as she did around Gosford on Anzac Day. Fitter and an extra 100m is a plus, suggest not turning as much is in her favour as she looks to have plenty of size. Hard to beat.
Dangers: 2. Hopper returns as a gelding after two starts in November where he finished just behind the placings on both occasions. Nicely drawn and ready after two trials to run a big race fresh. 8. Winner Of Kowloon led and held on for third at her debut at Canterbury on Easter Monday. That was over 1100m and she was solid in betting so she’s entitled to another chance. 3. Proviseur is another first-up as a gelding having run third over this course back in December. Nice trial winner here last month and no surprise if he performs well fresh.
How to play it: Frankely Sublime WIN ($4.00 TAB Fixed Odds).
Frankely Sublime runs second at Gosford on April 25
Race 4 - 2:00PM COGBURN WORLDS FASTEST HORSE @ WIDDEN HANDICAP (1000M) |
---|
2. Negotiations is a big market watch first-up since November where he bled at Randwick in a high benchmark race. Was right in the market there too on the back of two placings in strong form races prior. Two quiet trials, keep very safe.
Dangers: 3. Extravagent Lad can be forgiven for his Randwick failure in stronger company where he was in the second half and didn’t run on. Solid winner prior at Orange and placed at Randwick on Boxing Day so is good enough to rebound. 4. Pokerjack resumed with a fading forth in the same race at Orange but will be much fitter for it. Might need one more run and 1100m but big drop in weight after the claim so can improve. 1. Outishka showed some early speed before weakening first-up at Muswellbrook. Small field here and claim helps so could be an improver.
How to play it: Negotiations WIN ($2.10 TAB Fixed Odds).
Negotiations’ latest trial at Newcastle on April 16
Race 5 - 2:35PM ASAHI SUPER DRY HANDICAP (1600 METRES) |
---|
5. Seafall was more than acceptable in her first-up fourth at Canterbury when closing the race off from well off the speed. First couple home dominated that race. Fitter and second-up form is far superior so expect her to show up.
Dangers: 7. Sigiriya Rock is right back in class after two Group 3 attempts where he had his chance in both and battled on fairly to record two fifths. Every chance to produce something back to midweeks and with McDonald retaining. 4. Our Empress Zoe was a solid favourite when scoring at Canterbury third-up where she tracked the leader and ran it down late. Good chance if she can hold form. 3. Cormac T ran a solid race when resuming in that event for a close third. Barrier a worry for him, does he push on or go back. Might want a bit more than a mile but not underselling him.
How to play it: Seafall EACH-WAY ($8.00 TAB Fixed Odds).
Seafall runs fourth at Canterbury on April 21
Race 6 - 3:10PM DRINKWISE MILE (1600 METRES) |
---|
9. Dame Commander looks to have a good chance to post her second win back in class after a close sixth in Group 3 company at Randwick first-up. This is her first run out of stakes grade since her maiden win and she’ll relish the mile. Hard to beat.
Dangers: 5. Villasaurus is a consistent galloper who ran right up to his short price to score easily at Albury a few weeks ago. Rarely far away and has found a good race to be competitive in. 10. Sounds Unusual showed promise in his first campaign and it ended with a win over 1900m at Canterbury on January 1. Kicking off at this trip suits and he should run well fresh with a view to longer races. 7. Misterkipchoge showed he’s not far off an elusive win with a close second at Kensington on Anzac Day. That was over 1800m, though, and he’s back in trip. Include in the chances but this could be a gap run to get him to his next start over further.
How to play it: Dame Commander WIN ($2.80 TAB Fixed Odds).
Dame Commander runs sixth at Randwick on April 19
Race 7 - 3:45PM TRAFFIC WARDEN @ DARLEY HANDICAP (1300 METRES) |
---|
2. Clear Proof hasn’t done a whole lot in two runs back but he did make some ground here last time at 1200m in a good form race. Gets softer conditions, draws a lot better than his past two and finds a very winnable race so he can improve at each-way odds.
Dangers: 11. Secure did quite a good job up on the speed at Canterbury and broke away late for an easy maiden win. Up 200m but has the right platform and sure to run well again. 10. Pink Shalala hasn’t done a whole lot wrong in seven starts and scored a deserved maiden win back on February 21 at Canterbury. Can run well fresh over the shorter trip. 15. True Amor is an interesting runner who has trialled quite strongly on two occasions leading into a first-up run as a gelding. Did win his maiden fresh last time in so keep in mind.
How to play it: Clear Proof EACH-WAY ($23 TAB Fixed Odds).
Clear Proof’s last start at Warwick Farm on April 16
Race 8 - 4:20PM TAB HANDICAP (1300 METRES) |
---|
4. Hellbent On You has been excellent this preparation with a first-up win and two city placings by small margins. Slowly out last time and it might have been costly as she just failed to catch Candlewick over 1200m. Only has to hold form to be a good chance.
Dangers: 6. Miss Kim Kar resumed in the same race and hit the line nicely into third. Drawn wide again so tactics will be interesting as she’s generally been an on pacer. Have to include. 5. Just Feelin’ Lucky was heavily supported when resuming at Newcastle and got the job done almost a month ago. Runner-up has since won. Every chance to take the next step. 9. Mia Ballerina started favourite in a maiden at Canterbury on Easter Monday and was never going to be beaten as she led clearly all the way. Up in grade now but gate one and JMac sticks so she’ll have her chance.
How to play it: Hellbent On You EACH-WAY ($14 TAB Fixed Odds).
Hellbent On You runs second at Warwick Farm on April 16
