Neil Evans' Tips For Newcastle (Monday)

By Neil Evans

Track Heavy 9 and rail out 4m

Race 1 - 12:00PM VARLEY GROUP 3YO&UP MAIDEN HANDICAP (900 METRES)

1. Pratt is an emerging three-year-old resuming off two strong trials on the Beaumont circuit here, and is bred to thrive in heavy ground. Was competitive enough in deeper races in that initial campaign, and looks to have this lot covered, especially with a leading and trial-winning rider in the saddle. 8. Perasta is also trained on the course, and can improvely sharply after doing nothing first-up. Another local 2. Enchanted World is a filly on debut for the home track Kris Lees stable, and has been given plenty of time at the trials. Big gap to the rest headed by 4. Monte Out'n'about, a five-year old country mare by I Am Invincible on debut.

How to play it: Pratt to win

Race 2 - 12:35PM CLICKK MIDWAY 2YO MAIDEN PLATE (900 METRES)

3. Tyrone's Power will likely jump a clear favorite off a solid second start run at Warwick Farm in soft ground. Carries only 1kg more here coming back to a much weaker juvenile race, and drawn to get the right trail just off speed.1. Divo is a home tracker by Capitalist in the Nathan Doyle stable, and naturally a big watch behind two trial wins last month. 2. Toughenup Son, a debutante by Sebring Sun, and 8. Scarlet Monarch, with an edge in fitness fourth-up; can add value into trifecta and first fours.

How to play it: Tyrone's Power to win

Race 3 - 1:10PM COASTAL ADVICE GROUP BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (900 METRES)

10. Prima Bella is a capable & still lightly raced metropolitan mare resuming off two trials, winning the former in heavy ground by a big margin. Returned off a long break and debut win to find the line okay in consecutive CL1 runs last spring before spelling. Relishes wet tracks, and given her early tactical speed, the short course trip is ideal. 5. Hawker Hall is an exciting local who has to overcome a wide gate, but blew away his opposition in heavy ground here a month ago as the hottest of favourites before kept ticking over with the easiest of trial wins. Keep safe 2. Kiribati who also returns off a sound trial with an important gear change, and comes to hand quickly. 14. One Kind is a tough mare who has run home into a place in all three runs this prep. At bigger odds, 3. Cumboogle who won three straight in the country up to BM 66 level before missing narrowly at Wellington a fortnight ago, and 6. Markwell Dreamer who draws the fence first-up behind two progressive trials; are both each way value on the next line.

How to play it: Prima Bella to win

Race 4 - 1:50PM DARREN FARRELLY MEMORIAL (HMF CUP) CUP C1 & MAIDEN (2230M)

7. Tommy Thug is a tough metropolitan five-year-old who is bursting to break through well into the prep in what is a thinner arce. Mixed his form in two heavy track runs here, found to have cardiac arrhythmia from the latter, before only missing by a neck in a stronger race at Hawkesbury, and the winner has since scored easily again. Has placed eight times from 13 starts, and draws to get a soft run right behind the speed. 2. Trapalanda can improve sharply third-up over more ground third-up, and back significantly in grade. 1. De Louviere is honest and has been in and around the money all prep. 3. Juan Pablo was dominant last start after tracking the speed in a weaker country affair. 8. Bearings third-up can figure in the minor money.

How to play it: Tommy Thug to win

Race 5 - 2:25PM DAMAR MINYAK DF SUPER 3YO&UP MAIDEN PLATE (1400 METRES)

1. Walk The Pier is a lightly raced and emerging metropolitan three-year-old who can finally start to live up to his ability coming back to the provincial ranks second-up. Had two mixed and somewhat luckless runs from the back to start his career at Kembla late last year before spelling. Then returned off two good trials with a handy closing effort in a much deeper Super Maiden at Warwick Farm. Back on the bigger course, and with one of the strongest riders in provincial NSW taking over in Keagan Latham, he can settle back off the speed and round them up late. Handles all going. Respect for 3. Blue Willow, a well-bred Godolphin filly who peaks at her third start; while 4. Invisible Magic, a filly improving into her second start, and at longer odds 7. Lune D'excellence second-up over a shade further, can both figure in the minor money.

How to play it: Walk The Pier to win

Race 6 - 3:05PM AARON WALTER CENTURY 21 EDGEWORTH F&M BM64 (1250 METRES)

4. She Conquers is a progressive filly who can go back-to-back fourth-up. Worked home okay in two Midway CL1 races before finishing best to claim an all-comers BM 64 at Kembla. Unproven in heavy ground, but is bred to handle it, and comes back to fillies and mares company here. 1. La Signore Dane won two straight at Canberra up to BM 60 level before faltering late in heavy going against a much deeper field at Wyong. Can bounce back, bur a query in real heavy ground. 5. Divine Vicky has plenty of ability and has charged home late in her last two at Kembla, but hasn't won for a while. 3. Corrupted is fit, and has far more to offer than her poor run in a similar company at Wyong last start. 6. Lunaite is an emerging filly who bolted in her maiden here on a Heavy 10 23 days ago; while 2. Motoscafo and 7. Reducio are also in the each way mix.

How to play it: She Conquers to win

Race 7 - 3:40PM NEWCASTLE SKIN CHECK CG&E BM64 HANDICAP (1250 METRES)

9. Ceasefire is terrific value coming back 100m in distance third-0up. Has tracked the speed before working home into a place in two runs this prep, the latest a classier BM 64 line-up, and is right at home on wet tracks. Over the odds. 10. Cool Lad is a tough customer who leads several threats third-up off a long break. 1. Mural Crown is ready to peak third-up despite drawing wide. 4. One Last Shot will find this more to his liking four weeks between runs after dropping out on the Kensington track. 6. French Marine draws wide, but still over the odds second-up with a significant jockey change and on ground he relishes. Include 2. Etched In Time who has been freshened up at the trials, and finds a slightly thinner race; and 5. Commanding Artist resuming from a soft draw off two quiet trials; in all exotic plays.

How to play it: Ceasefire to win

Race 8 - 4:15PM FULTON HOGAN PROVINCIAL BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP (1870 METRES)

1. Dreamdeel is tough and fit, and gets a timely rise in trip behind a narrow BM 64 win a month ago. Afforded good weight relief after a 3kg claim, and was scratched from Sunday's Gunnedah Cup to be saved for this in what should be a weakened affair with two of the better chances both running at Randwick on Saturday. 4. Kosuke is well placed, but very unlikely after being well beaten in a tougher BM 78 at Randwick. So too progressive filly 8. Elivina who unsuccessfully tackled a BM 72 on Saturday. 6. Surreal I Am has won two from his last three in Qld on synthetic tracks, and over the odds from a soft trailing draw. 2. General Soho is on a quick back-up down in grade fourth-up; while 9. Bella Kathleen, drawn the fence on her preferred heavy surface, is the best of the rest.

How to play it: Dreamdeel to win

BEST BETS:
R1 1. PRATT
R5 1. WALK THE PIER

BEST VALUE:
R7 9. CEASEFIRE
