John Schell's Tips For Kembla Grange (Tuesday)

By John Schell

(Selections based on a soft track)

Race 1 - 12:35PM THE PHANTOM TIPSTER 2YO MAIDEN HANDICAP (1400 METRES):

1. Evenflow had two starts earlier in the year and finished second in the second of them at Warwick Farm when performing well. He since resumed with a solid fourth at Gosford and should have derived benefit from that hitout. He’s drawn wide in this but has enough ability to overcome that.

Dangers: 7. Stallone is on debut after having a number of trials and should run well from the good gate with Jason Collett taking the ride. 6. Safe Place has had two trials and has looked good enough in each of them to be able to give this a shake on debut. 4. Inception is also on debut and is a stablemate of Stallone. He’s shown talent in his trials and is not out of this.

How to play it: Evenflow WIN.

Race 2 - 1:10PM RENE'S SPIRIT CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1400 METRES):

3. Happy Saturday is an import which showed some talent in his first two runs in Australia late last year. He had two trials before resuming from a spell with a close-up third at Hawkesbury behind Bat Out Of Hell when battling on well to the line. He’s drawn wide but can push forward like last time out and take plenty of running down.

Dangers: 1. Vanquished ran a great race in the Magic Millions Guineas in January when beaten less than three lengths despite finishing 10th. He’s drawn well in this on the back of a resuming fifth on the Kensington track at Randwick. 4. Vomo Island was a winner at Wyong last November, then failed to fire in a couple more runs before having a break. He resumed at Sandown with an eighth placing, but can improve sharply here. 7. Tartana won well when resuming at Gosford and since finished a solid third at Muswellbrook and should run well again.

How to play it: Happy Saturday EACH WAY.

Race 3 - 1:45PM MULLET CREEK MAIDEN HANDICAP (1200 METRES):

13. Major Look had three starts in October, November and December of last year, and finished third in the second of them at Wyong when an odds-on favourite. His other two runs were solid enough and since returning from the spell he’s had two trials and finished fourth in each of them.

Dangers: 5. Erotas is on debut here and has had two trials in which she’s performed well in each of them. She’s in a good stable and has drawn well, and should give a good sight. 8. Goodlucktome has won his two latest trials and is primed to run well here, while 6. Regal Harmony is on debut and her trials have been OK.

How to play it: Major Look WIN.

Race 4 - 2:20PM THE SEAGULL CHASER MIDWAY CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1200 METRES):

5. Monte Kate had some solid city form to her name, including a solid eighth behind Spring Lee at Canterbury, before being beaten in the last stride here when second last time out. She has the ability to go one better here.

Dangers: 1. Runwiththetide was placed in a couple of Randwick runs at the end of last year when not beaten far in either of them. He ran second in a trial at this track before resuming with a seventh at Rosehill. He can improve on that here and take plenty of beating. 2. Undivided resumed at Gosford with a down the track effort, but is capable of sharp improvement. 3. Close Encounter won at this track before a solid enough effort at Hawkesbury last time out. He has the talent to give this a shake.

How to play it: Monte Kate WIN.

Race 5 - 2:55PM MICHAEL CRAIG RETIREMENT PROVINCIAL MAIDEN (1600 METRES):

8. Divine Ella was a trial winner at this track before debuting with a fourth at Wagga earlier this month. She followed that up with a good fourth on the Kensington track at Randwick and only needs to run up to that effort in order to be a leading contender in this.

Dangers: 5. Mega Flight has finished third in each of his two starts since resuming from a spell at this track, and he only needs to run up to those efforts to be a chance again here. 2. Coastal Groove was placed at Newcastle at his latest start, and he can show up again here with a repeat of that effort. 4. Irish Bliss has been placed in two of his three starts, both since resuming from a spell, and he can figure in the money again here.

How to play it: Divine Ella WIN.

Race 6 - 3:35PM UP YOU GO BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1600 METRES):

6. Pink Baroque enjoyed a good run at Newcastle when last produced and hit the line well to score an emphatic victory. She’s shown plenty of talent in her career and she now has three wins to her name. She can go on with the job here.

Dangers: 1. Toretto hit the line well in a couple of Canberra runs, including a second at that track two starts ago. He again ran home well when going down narrowly when fourth in the Parkes Cup last time out, and is ready to peak now. 2. McGeehan was close-up when fourth on the Kensington track at his latest start and can figure here with a repeat, while 8. Wild Calm won at Goulburn three starts ago and hasn’t been too far away since then.

How to play it: Pink Baroque WIN.

Race 7 - 4:15PM FAREWELL DUCK CONDITIONAL BM 68 HCP (1400 METRES):

5. Emmadella is a two-time winner and she resumed from a spell with a handy effort when finishing fifth at Canterbury when hitting the line well. She backed that up with another solid effort when again hitting the line well to finish fourth at Scone. She should be hitting the line well again.

Dangers: 8. Headley Grange resumed from a spell and did the job well to score a first-up win at this track in March. He followed that up with a good second behind the handy Briasa at this track, and has since finished third on the Kensington track at Randwick. This looks well within his reach. 1. Herb hit the line well to score at this track last Saturday week, and only needs a little luck from the wide draw in order to be a leading chance again. 6. Bokuden has had two runs back from a spell and should be ready to peak now.

How to play it: Emmadella WIN.

Best Bets:
Race 1 (1) Evenflow.
Race 7 (5) Emmadella.

Best Value:
Race 2 (3) Happy Saturday.
