Huge Numbers Nominate For $3.5m Longines Golden Slipper

A total of 2,435 horses have been nominated for the world’s richest race for two-year-olds – the Group 1 $3.5 million Longines Golden Slipper Stakes – to be run at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, 21st March 2020.

The number of first entries for the 64th running of the iconic race is the second highest in the event’s history.

Stables from across Australia and New Zealand have nominated large numbers led by Ciaron Maher Racing with 133 entries.

Other leading trainers and stables with the largest number of nominations include David & B Hayes & T Dabernig with 125, Chris Waller Racing (97), James Cummings for Godolphin (91), Peter and Paul Snowden Racing (85), Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott (81), Tony McEvoy (69), Mick Price Racing & Breeding (66), Hawkes Racing (65), Aquis Farm Pty Ltd (59) and Kris Lees (55).

Sires with most first nominations include I Am Invincible (115), Written Tycoon (97), Snitzel (94), Sebring (80), Zoustar (76), Vancouver (74), Deep Field (69), Not A Single Doubt (67), Fastnet Rock (59), Exceed and Excel (57) and More Than Ready (53).

Australian Turf Club Executive General Manager Racing Services, James Heddo, said the Longines Golden Slipper remained the race that shapes Australian racing and breeding.

“The Longines Golden Slipper is the race every owner, trainer and jockey first dreams of winning and that dream begins again with these first nominations," Mr Heddo said.

“This year’s numbers remain very strong for the world’s richest race for two-year-olds run on Australia’s biggest day of Group 1 racing."
