Neil Evans' Tips For Armidale (Tuesday)

By Neil Evans

Track rated Good 3 and Rail True

Race 1 C, G & E MAIDEN PLATE (1100m):

The boys get us rolling in a maiden dash, and hard to see anything upsetting Scone 3YO 7. Quan who led for a long way on debut at Dubbo before collared in the last few strides. Fitter now and carrying 1.5kg less on a track that will better suit his jump-and-run style.

Dangers: Cessnock 4YO 3. Rubick's Command is way better than his first-up flop at Taree when he stayed at the back, and underwent a vet's examination post race. Draws to park further forward from the inside, so expect sharp improvement. Big watch on Tamworth 3YO first starter 5. Demeurer who impressed winning a trial, and is drawn to get a sound run.

How to play it: Quan to win and quinella 3 and 7. Odds and Evens: Odds a special

Race 2 F & M MAIDEN PLATE (1100m):

Now for the girls' edition, and it's a far more open affair, with less speed likely up front. Tamworth mare 1. Kegstar hasn't been seen since an impressive trial win at Scone in mid August when cruising through the line after sitting outside the speed. Form apprentice takes 1.5kg off.

Dangers: Scone mare 4. Nana Neddy resumes off a long break and a quiet trial, but has ability. Was very well backed when failing on debut at Tamworth. Muswellbrook mare 6. Wicked has had a seven week freshen-up. Sat back behind a solid speed before zipping through underneath to win a recent trial at home, although was ridden out right to the line. Winkers have been applied. Local mare 5. Wanda Beach was never beaten far in her first prep, and prepared for return with a tidy trial here.

How to play it: Kegstar to win and trifecta 1,4,6/1,4,6/1,4,5,6. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 3 BENCHMARK 66 HCP (1100m):

Nearly always good speed and pressure when the older sprinters meet. Keen on smart Tamworth 4YO 2. Halcyon House resuming off a tidy trial. Has a solid fresh record, won only previous start here, and drawn to park right behind the speed.

Dangers: Quirindi mare 6. Dreaming For More was very good in beating a handy Class 1 field two runs back before a solid closing effort in a provincial BM 64. Building a nice sprint record this prep. Speedster 7YO 4. New Alliance was only nabbed in the last stride under the same weight at Lismore, and again will give them something to catch, but taking on some better ones here. Watch out for 4YO 5. Brave Enough charging home late. Has finished okay from wide draws in his last couple, but will obviously need a clean run over this trip to drag them in.

How to play it: Halcyon House to win. Odds and Evens: Evens a special

Halcyon House runs second in a trial at Muswellbrook on November 18

Race 4 OPEN HCP (1900m):

Out in distance now for the open class, and improving Port mare 3. Zellymay can make it two from her last three. Tracked the speed and won comfortably two runs back before working home okay behind a very handy stayer at Grafton. Looks well treated dropping down to 55kg considering this isn't strong.

Dangers: Any number headed by Coffs 7YO 2. Fabricator who rises in trip fourth-up, and drops in weight from a fair on-speed effort at Ipswich. Grafton 6YO 4. Bullet Shot has a poor strike-rate, but worked home nicely in that same race as the top selection. Gets significant weight relief too, and draws to get a cosy passage on the inside.

How to play it: Zellymay to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Zellymay's last start at Grafton on November 17

Race 5 MAIDEN HCP (1400m):

Ex-Victorian 3YO filly 8. Medician Miss can strike in her first run for the leading Tamworth stable, since switching from the Phillip Stokes yard. Two runs back powered home late to run the smart Lady In The Sky to a head at Pakenham, and back a little in distance four weeks between runs.

Dangers: Local 4YO 1. Scatman was flat last start over further, and covering ground early, but much better suited back to this trip from the inside gate. Improving mare 6. If You Think So third-up is clear best of the rest, and was scratched from Taree on Monday to be saved for this.

How to play it: Medician Miss to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 6 BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1400m):

Tricky race, with several hopes. Inverell 4YO mare 4. Righthere Rightnow is well placed getting back out to her best distance in a slightly thinner race. Can be ridden a little quieter from a middle draw, and finish over the top.

Dangers: Tough Tamworth 4YO 2. Onemorechoice hasn't raced since doing it tough from a wide draw in a Highway seven weeks ago, but drops back in trip. Previous form was sound, and if he can roll forward and either lead or sit outside will be hard to get past, despite rising sharply in weight back in this grade. Another one from Inverell, 6YO mare 8. Henson Park Bluebag was well supported at big odds hanging on to win the Battlers Cup at home, and gets in light after the claim, but this is tougher.

How to play it: Righthere Rightnow to win. Odds and Evens: Evens

Race 7 CLASS 1 HCP (1300m):

Promising 4YO Tamworth gelding 1. Moyassar can continue on his merry way third-up out in trip. Hit the line hard at Scone first-up for the new yard before destroying his maiden opposition here just over three weeks back.

Dangers: Doubt there are any, but improving 4YO 4. Time For Don can fill the quinella fifth up this prep; while expect a big run from former Victorian mare 2. Huayu Rainbow first-up off a long break for new Muswellbrook stable.

How to play it: Moyassar to win and quinella 1 and 4. Odds and Evens: Split a Special

Race 8 CLASS 1 HCP (1100m):

We close the card over the sprint journey, and another one from the Tamworth yard of Cody Morgan 3. The First Of May disappointed first-up at Scone after leading, but less depth here and senior rider goes on.

Dangers: Rival Tamworth mare 5. Trelise has been okay in her last couple, and can settle right behind the speed from the inside draw.

How to play it: The First Of May to win. Odds and Evens: Odds
