Seven-year-old Danza In The Dark has won six of his 36 starts and enjoyed a brilliant run back in February when he won the Walcha and Quirindi Cups in successive starts.

“It was a track record too,” owner/trainer Steve Meyer said of his 1440m Walcha Cup win. “A 130 year old record.”

Meyer freshened Danza In The Dark up after his Quirindi Cup win and after a six week break finished 5th to Our Boy Ollie in the Tamworth Cup Prelude.

16 days later he was 11th to Gringotts in the Tamworth Cup before floundering when eighth of nine to Reggies Boy in the Muswellbrook Cup on a Heavy 9 track.

“He got beaten seven lengths by Gringotts,” Meyer said. “Ran second last in the Muswellbrook Cup carrying 60kg. He worked enormous this morning. Best Ive ever seen him work.”

He said his gelding “usually does what he wants.”

Trackwork riders have reckoned him to be the “world's worst ride” and “the slowest horse in Tamworth”.

“However, if you don’t ask him he’ll trot three laps of the track, just does what they ask him to do.”
