Longines Golden Slipper Prizemoney Increase From 2022

Racing NSW today announced an increase in prizemoney for the Longines Golden Slipper Stakes from 2022.

Prizemoney for the Longines Golden Slipper Stakes will be increased to $5 million, cementing its position as the pre-eminent two-year-old race in the world and one of the highlights of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.

In addition to increased prizemoney for the Longines Golden Slipper, the Australian Turf Club is offering a $1 million bonus for any horse that wins the Golden Slipper having won feature pathway races in the lead-up.

The Longines Golden Slipper generates the third highest wagering turnover of any race held in NSW, behind The Everest and The Golden Eagle.

“Importantly, this prizemoney increase strengthens the Longines Golden Slipper as our autumn’s marquee race held at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse,” said Racing NSW Chairman Mr Russell Balding AO.

“The increased Golden Slipper prizemoney recognises its importance as the world’s best two-year-old race and one of the most important races in Sydney’s autumn.

“With feature race prizemoney having increased in recent years this increase ensures the standing of the Golden Slipper which showcases Australia’s best two-year-old sprinters.”

Australian Turf Club Chairman Matthew McGrath said the increased prizemoney and bonus recognised the stature of the Longines Golden Slipper as the race that shapes the Australian racing and breeding industry.

“There is no race in the world like the Longines Golden Slipper at Rosehill Gardens, and these increases continue to elevate this raceday as amongst the very best on the global stage,” Mr McGrath said.

“The Longines Golden Slipper is the pinnacle event of the Australian juvenile racing program and the $1 million bonus from the Australian Turf Club makes our pathway races for two-year-olds an even greater focus of Sydney racing in autumn.

“The very best quality two-year-olds in Australia will race in Sydney ahead of the ultimate prize.”
