Neil Evans' Tips For Newcastle (Tuesday)

By Neil Evans

Track likely Good 4 and rail out 8m, so fairly even early before trending wider and from further off the speed late

Race 1 MAIDEN PLATE (1300m):

The maidens get us underway in a set weights sprint. Really liked the second of two recent trials from 3YO Rosehill colt 1. Kingsheir (Kingman x Rose Memory by Elusive City) having his first start for the Hawkes stable. He settled out the back before cruising home into fourth under a tight hold. By a Group 1 winner in the UK, and bred to get over plenty of ground. Debuts in winkers from a nice draw.

Dangers: Well bred Randwick 2YO 6. Requited steps up sharply in trip after a tidy debut finishing off well behind a smarter sprinter at Scone. Warwick Farm filly 2. Bellarine resumes off two trials, with a light weight after apprentice rider's claim.

How to play it: Kingsheir to win and quinella 1 and 6. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 2 2YO MAIDEN HCP (900m):

The babies lock horns over the short course. Warwick Farm filly 5. Joviality appeals resuming from the inside gate off a smart trial win.

Dangers: Watch the betting on debutant local filly 8. Superel (Super One x El Mina by Spinning World) who won the second of two trials with plenty in hand, and is bred to go quick. Liked the debut of local gelding 3. Media Man who worked home late here behind a promising winner, and sire was a Group 1 star over the mile; while Wyong colt 1. Ricardo comes out of that same race as Media Man, beaten under a length first-up, and has good early speed. Include the other Snowden runner, debutant filly 9. Yangarra Rose (Zoustar x Vibrant Rouge by Written Tycoon) who has also trialled well in wider exotics.

How to play it: Joviality to win and first four 5,8/1,3,5,8,9/1,3,5,8,9/1,3,5,8,9. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 3 CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (2350m):

Now the stayers' turn, and it's a tricky battle at set weights. Improving Gosford 4YO 1. Dundee charged home for a dominant maiden win at home fourth-up, and should be even better suited on the bigger track, although up sharply in weight.

Dangers: Victorian 5YO 5. Rezealient has only won once from 18 starts, but finished second five times, and will find this easier than Saturday class opposition he's been tackling. Randwick 3YO filly 10. Diamonds And Rust also likes to roll forward, and drops in grade. Should come over and either lead, or sit outside, and another one much better off back on the bigger track; while Warwick Farm 3YO and last start dominant Scone CL1 winner 7. Kippax is best of the rest.

How to play it: Dundee to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 4 PROV & CTRY MAIDEN PLATE (1600m):

This looks ideal at his fourth start for progressive 3YO Wyong gelding 8. Underboss from the Kim Waugh stable. Hasn't been far away in deeper maidens at his last two, although hasn't savaged the line, but better suited out to the mile, and this is a weak affair.

Dangers: Rival Wyong 3YO 4. Mexican Standoff only debuted seven weeks ago, but lines up for his sixth start. Did his best work late at Gosford, and should relish getting on to the bigger circuit. Expect sharp improvement second-up in an easier race from Newcastle 3YO 5. Rainbow Man getting back on firmer footing.

How to play it: Underboss to win. Odds and Evens: Evens

Underboss runs third at Newcastle on June 27

Race 5 CLASS 2 HCP (900m):

Back to the flying trip, and 3YO filly 5. Espressino from the leading local yard of Kris Lees is the one to beat first-up for six months after bolting in a recent heavy track trial.

Dangers: Warwick Farm 4YO 1. Shadow Bridge was only run down in the last stride in a CL2 at Wyong two runs back before plain to the line in a BM 64 at Kembla. Better suited here, and just needs to slot in from the awkward draw. Inverell 2YO 6. Atkinson stuck on okay at second start behind an impressive CL1 winner at Scone; and Scone 5YO 8. Gold Codes is hard fit, and drops sharply in weight.

How to play it: Espressino to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 6 BM 64 HCP (1600m):

Open race. Newcastle 3YO 1. Controlthewitness likes to roll forward and can give a big sight dropping back to the preferred mile on firmer ground.

Dangers: Watch the market on stablemate 3YO 3. Blazing Sunrise resuming off a steady trial over his best distance. Randwick 3YO 4. Just Society has been freshened up with a crucial gear change coming back in trip from Group 3 company at Eagle Farm, and draws to be tucked away and be saved for one final one surge; while ultra consistent 4YO gelding 6. Salsa Man has run six placings from his last seven, and is over the odds.

How to play it: Controlthewitness to win and box trifecta 1,3,4,6. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 7 BM 64 HCP (1200m):

We close with the sprinters in the same grade. Improving 3YO Randwick filly 7. Al Snip from the John O'Shea yard will be hard to hold out second-up over her best trip. Was run off her feet first-up at Wyong chasing form sprinter Spaceboy who then bolted in at Randwick on Saturday.

Dangers: Rosehill filly 8. Hyannis Port looks well placed third-up after two close-up efforts at the provincials. Expect big improvement second-up from lightly raced local 3YO 5. Awesome Lad who was only average resuming behind Quantico who then confirmed his ability with a luckless dead heat win at Eagle Farm on Saturday; while watch the betting on progressive Rosehill filly 10. Express Princess who resumes off two quiet trials.

How to play it: Al Snip to win and trifecta 5,7,8/5,7,8/5,7,8,10. Odds and Evens: Split

Al Snip runs third at Wyong on June 18
