Neil Evans' Tips For Kembla Grange (Tuesday)

By Neil Evans

Track improving to around Soft 5 and rail True so should be fairly even before a late trend wider

Race 1 CLASS 2 HCP (1000m):

Good competitive sprint to open, and it looks an ideal second-up assignment for progressive 3YO gelding 2. Contalmaison from the Allan Denham stable at Wyong after charging home fresh at big odds to land a deeper BM 64 at Newcastle. The firmer the better.

Dangers: Capable Rosehill filly 7. Hyannis Port resumes off a trial from the inside barrier, and will be forward enough for leading juvenile stable. Warwick Farm 4YO gelding 1. Shadow Bridge can improve second-up off a nine week break and down in quality; while watch the betting on 4YO mare 6. Power Rush who resumes without an official trial for new home track stable after being transferred from Kris Lees, and fresh form is solid.

How to play it: Contalmaison to win. Odds and Evens (First 2): Split

Oconee runs second at Newcastle on May 5

Race 2 METRO & PROV MAIDEN PLATE (1600m):

Open and tactical battle here at set weights. Improving 3YO gelding 5. Oconee from the Chris Waller yard at Rosehill can break through at third start. Improved nicely into a strong and sustained finishing run second-up at Hawkesbury despite being slow to begin, and draws to get an ideal midfield trail off the fence.

Dangers: Randwick filly 8. Perfect Impression was disappointing in that same maiden at Hawkesbury as an even money favourite when failing to hit the line after looming up from a nice trail. Previous form, though, was strong, and can bounce back carrying 2kg less.

How to play it: Oconee to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Agrapart wins at Tamworth on May 4

Race 3 2YO MAIDEN HCP (1400m):

Now the babies' turn, and there are a stack of hopes headed by Randwick colt 3. Kermanding from team Snowden who closed off nicely debuting in a handy maiden at Canterbury off an unsuitable tempo. By a former Doncaster winner, and drawn to get an economical run back in the field, so watch for him storming home again.

Dangers: Must include Warwick Farm colt 1. Black Bolt for form stable after boxing on well debuting here a month ago over same distance. Expect improvement from Godolphin filly 10. Silhouette who never got a clear run on debut at this track, and bred to get over ground. Rosehill filly 12. Zoumist was solid in the market when also doing her best work late on debut at Canterbury, but will likely drift well back from a wide draw. Godolphin colt 2. Namazu wasn't far away resuming for only second start in that same Canterbury maiden, but tougher draw here over further; while monitor any betting moves for Maher-Eustace colt 4. Nuclear Energy who bolted in a trial last month and debuts in blinkers.

How to play it: Kermanding each way and first four 1,3,10/1,2,3,4,10,12/1,2,3,4,10,12/1,2,3,4,10,12. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 4 MAIDEN PLATE (1200m):

Still with the maidens at set weights, and keen on 3YO gelding 8. Sebourg from the Warwick Farm yard of Gary Portelli resuming off two trials. Will drift back from a wide gate, but should be just enough pressure on up front to allow him to get home, and on debut rattled home to just miss in a handy maiden at this track.

Dangers: Randwick 3YO 5. Explosive Truth returns off a five month spell for leading metro stable having won both lead-up trials. Will be out to control this from the inside draw. Ultra consistent and tough Warwick Farm 3YO 2. Bluff 'N' Bluster has run five straight placings this prep, charging home at Canterbury in his latest. Drawn to get a cheap run back on the inside, but has paid the handicapper's price climbing to 59kg. Expect home track 3YO 4. Doctor Mancini to improve over more ground after a tidy debut here at big odds.

How to play it: Sebourg each way and box trifecta 2,5,8. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 5 CLASS 1 HCP (1200m):

Small but tricky field over the sprint trip where tempo will be crucial. It's been a long while since capable 4YO gelding 6. Lord Zoulander from the Portelli stable won his maiden, but he looks ready to strike again fourth-up and down in class. Finished hard at Hawkesbury after being slow away, and can be coiled up off the speed here, and saved for one last surge.

Dangers: Tough local 5YO and favourite 1. Pioneer has been up for a while and rarely runs a bad one. Stuck on well after having no cover here last start, stays at the tip, and likely to roll forward again. Include in exotics Randwick filly 7. Sybella who scored a fighting win on debut at Newcastle despite easing in betting; while another Randwick 3YO 5. Destiny's Son can improve fifth-up with blinkers going on.

How to play it: Lord Zoulander to win and quinella 1 and 6. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 6 BM 70 HCP (1200m):

Another competitive and open one for the higher graded sprinters. Like progressive and lightly raced 4YO gelding 3. Catapult from the Richard Litt yard at the 'Farm to make it three straight this prep, despite rising in class and distance. Has swept home from well back to win last two impressively at Goulburn, and will charter a similar pattern here.

Dangers: Progressive 4YO 1. Nindamoss looks suited back on home track in a race with less depth after rocketing home from the back first-up at Canterbury, and two of three career wins have come here. Nowra 8YO 2. Budderoo Knight is tough as old boots powering home to win this grade and track last start, and has a better than 50 per cent strike rate at this track. Include consistent Nowra mare 6. Leami Astray - stablemate to Budderoo Knight - in exotics after a handy second-up at effort in a BM 70 at Warwick Farm.

How to play it: Catapult to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 7 BM 64 HCP (1600m):

Emerging 3YO colt 5. Qinghai Lake has progressed nicely in first full prep for the Bjorn Baker stable at the 'Farm scoring a dominant maiden win at Bathurst second-up before finishing off in a BM 58 at Goulburn under a huge weight. Fitter now dropping 3.5kg, and this isn't strong..

Dangers: Randwick 3YO 1. Bullet Fly has been threatening all prep in similar grade, finishing well this track last start; while Warwick Farm filly 6. Extreme Jewel is well placed fourth-up from the inside draw after charging home to just miss in a CL2 here.

How to play it: Qinghai Lake to win. Odds and Evens: Split.
