Track Soft 7 and rail True from 1300m to WP so fairly even pattern early before trending wider
Race 1 3YO & UP MAIDEN PLATE (1300m):
The maidens get us underway, and progressive 3YO Godolphin filly 8. Pitjara only needs to find some sort of cover from a wide draw to be the one to beat. Has worked home soundly in her last couple at Newcastle, and carries 1kg less here.
Dangers: Local 4YO 4. Thrive In The Home is the clear threat back at home having been in and around the money all prep. Loves to lead, and was only run down in the last few strides here two two runs back, and gets some weight relief with 2kg claimer going on. Liked the first-up run of home track filly 5. Calbuco finding the line strong at big odds, and should enjoy the extra trip; while Warwick Farm 3YO first starter 2. McGeehan (Excelebration x Maid Of Ulster by High Chaparral) is a big market watch debuting off a strong trial win in Soft 7 ground.
How to play it: Pitjara to win and quinella 4 and 8. Odds and Evens: Evens
Pitjara runs second at Newcastle on June 6
Race 2 MAIDEN PLATE (1100m):
Forgiving of 2YO colt 8. Coat Of Arms from the Snowden yard after a poor run at Newcastle when failing to finish off as a hot favourite over a shorter trip. Suspect he's far more effective on rain-affected ground and over further. Trainer has tinkered with the gear, and leading metro jockey hops aboard.
Dangers: Godolphin 3YO filly 7. Segosha finished off okay in a handy maiden at Wyong in only her second start, and she's over the odds. Include 2YO Randwick colt 9. Easy Campese who resumes off two trials, and was solid on debut in similar conditions back in January.
How to play it: Coat Of Arms to win. Odds and Evens: Split
Race 3 PROV & CTRY MAIDEN HCP (1100m):
Stack of chances in this one, with half the field on debut. One of those, 2YO filly 7. Lady Superspy (Exosphere x Lady Superstar by Starcraft) from the Tracey Bartley yard at Wyong looks to have plenty to offer after two wet track trials where she travelled well. Sire won three from five in soft going.
Dangers: Improving 3YO filly 9. Testa's Flower hit the line hard second-up at big odds for an under-rated local stable, and a little further on a little wetter surface should suit even more. Intrigued to see how 3YO filly and former Victorian 3. Paprena goes having her first run for good local stable off a sound trial. Another one trained on the track, 2YO 4. Titan Of Industry (Written Tycoon x Keltara by Exceed And Excel) debuts off two trials; while rival local 2YO 10. Titan Star is in the mix from a good draw off a solid Soft 7 run at Nowra.
How to play it: Lady Superspy each way and trifecta 3,7,9/3,4,7,9,10/3,4,7,9,10. Odds and Evens: Odds
Race 4 2YO MAIDEN HCP (1400m):
Another testing affair for the babies, with most still learning their trade. But one who looks ready to win after three improving runs this prep is 2YO Godolphin filly 12. Mollycoddle who charged home late here this trip and weight last start, and dam had a terrific winning strike rate in heavy ground.
Dangers: The Maher-Eustace stable has found a nice first-up race for talented colt 1. Setanta off two solid trials. Hit the line well on debut at Canterbury, and senior rider stays on. Another colt 2. Sole Heir from the Waterhouse-Bott yard stuck on okay resuming off a lengthy break in the heavy at Canterbury when solidly backed, and no doubt he'll be fitter this time around. Draws to control the race. Stablemate colt 5. Marcassin can figure at third start after an even second-up run on a bog track at Kembla where the times were good for the relative conditions; while include in exotics Randwick filly 7. Correlate who was also fair to the line on that same heavy track at Kembla.
How to play it: Mollycoddle to win and trifecta 1,2,12/1,2,12/1,2,5,7,12. Odds and Evens: Split
Mollycoddle runs second at Hawkesbury on June 7
Race 5 BM 64 HCP (1300m):
Very open battle. Lightly raced US-bred 4YO 6. Tapiconic from the Maher-Eustace yard can strike fifth-up over the right distance. Hasn't enjoyed a lot of room finishing well in his last two at Kembla and Newcastle, and better off drawn towards the outside.
Dangers: Plenty of them headed by Warwick Farm 3YO 4. Derbari who has been freshened up back in trip off a sound trial, and blinkers come off. Hard to believe talented Randwick filly 10. Maisaa has only won once from 13, but she's been placed a further seven times, and has continually hit the line from well back in deeper races this prep. Will again go back from a wide draw, but look for her thundering home. Well bred Rosehill filly 11. Ajaayeb is on the rise after charging home to land her maiden first up for seven months this track; while Randwick 5YO 1. Kosciusko will appreciate the longer journey fifth-up, and gets back into the fight at the weights after rider's 2kg claim.
How to play it: Tapiconic each way. Odds and Evens: Evens
Race 6 CLASS 2 HCP (1600m):
Very even and wide race, although Far North Coast-based 3YO 5. Cubix is hard fit and ready for the mile trip deep into this prep. Has been consistently finishing well into the placings across handy provincial company, and has a real liking for this sort of surface.
Dangers: Consistent Randwick colt 2. Snitzify landed a deserved CL1 win here two back before disappointing at Wyong, but blinkers come off, and softer the ground the better. Warwick Farm 3YO 4. Mission Dream has been over-run after leading in his last two, but reaches peak fitness now and sneaking down in the weights. Capable 3YO Randwick filly 1. Foxborough has lost her way since a dominant win in the Wagga Guineas in heavy ground seven weeks back. Dropped out badly in stronger Saturday metro class when heavily backed before again average in a mid-week BM 66. On face value looks well placed at the weights back in this grade, but the jury is out on whether she can find her best.
How to play it: Cubix each way. Odds and Evens: Split
Race 7 BM 64 HCP (1800m):
Another open one to finish. Now that 6YO emerging stayer 2. First Footman has broken his maiden at fourth run Down Under, he can go on with the job. Led all the way in dominant fashion at Gosford in heavy ground, and will likely look to dictate again over an ideal distance, although just as effective ridden off the speed.
Dangers: Smart Rosehill 3YO 9. Srini has let down powerfully from well back in his last two at this track, claiming his maiden before just missing in this grade. Still on the way up, and drawn to settle back and power home again. Progressive Randwick 3YO 8. Chief Geronimo scored a fighting maiden win leading here at only second start, and draws the inside.
How to play it: First Footman to win and Srini each way. Odds and Evens: Split.
