Neil Evans' Tips For Hawkesbury (Thursday)

By Neil Evans

Track Good 4 and rail true

Race 1 MAIDEN PLATE (1100m):

We open the meeting with a competitive sprint in what shapes as a three-way battle. Like resuming Warwick Farm filly 7. Escape Artist who returns for a second prep off two trials, and crucially first time on firmer footing. Had two solid runs in metro company through winter, both times on wet tracks, and this is her chance to open the account. Was scratched from Wyong on Wed to be saved for this.

Dangers: Rosehill 3YO 2. Impulsive Tycoon worked home nicely first up at Wyong, and should hold a better position here, with blinkers going on. Rival Rosehill 3YO 3. Lucky To Win is the other clear chance having been freshened up via a winning trial after attacking the line impressively on debut at this track.

How to play it: Escape Artist to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 2 PROV & CTRY MAIDEN PLATE (1300m):

Newcastle 4YO mare 7. Whatsin beat all bar the winner in two solid country runs last prep before being forced to spell. Tuned up for her return winning the second of two trials at Gosford, and top metro rider hops aboard.

Dangers: Rival Newcastle first starter 2. Mentalism trounced his rivals in the second of two trials at Gosford, and stable renowned for firing fresh; while Scone mare 6. Cheval Cat can peak third-up over this longer trip after finding the line well in two country runs.

How to play it: Whatsin to win and quinella 2 and 7. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 3 MAIDEN HCP (1300m):

Progressive Rosehill colt 2. Noble Privilege can strike at his second start getting on to a drier track and over more ground after a fair debut in a stronger metro maiden.

Dangers: Godolphin 3YO 6. Oregon Trail worked home okay on debut at Kembla through heavy ground despite not having much luck. Also expected to improve from that race at Kembla, 'Farm 3YO 1. Gone Troppo who ran through the line okay at bigger odds despite doing it tough in the run, although up 2.5kg in weight. Include race-fit Randwick 3YO 5. Finally Realise who hasn't been far off them in four provincial runs this prep.

How to play it: Noble Privilege to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 4 BM 68 HCP (1300m):

Wide and intriguing race, with in and out-of-town formlines colliding. The first-up maiden win of Warwick Farm colt 9. Toscanini was dominant enough to see him take this next significant step. Took on some good company in his first prep, including a strong second at metro Listed level.

Dangers: Consistent Warwick Farm 4YO 7. Maccomo is shooting for three straight up in grade. Will roll forward and dictate from the inside draw, but not well weighted carrying only half kilo less going from CL1 to this grade. Canberra 4YO 1. Dream Runner resumes for a strong yard with no public trial. Won three of four in his first prep, including blitzing maiden opposition on debut, and few stables around can place them better. Include in exotics both Pt Macquarie 5YO 3. Acoustix third-up; and Randwick 4YO 5. Ranges who hasn't missed a place in four runs this prep, but drawn the outside gate.

How to play it: Toscanini to win and trifecta 7,9/1,3,5,7,9/1,3,5,7,9. Odds and Evens: Odds a special

Plenty of chances here over the middle trip at set weights. Gosford 5YO 5. Estroverto doesn't win often, but like the fact he's been freshened up via a soft trial after two fair efforts in BM 64 grade. Has placed three from four starts at this track.

Dangers: Newcastle 6YO 7. Spanish Point is much better placed fourth-up, coming back from a metro BM 72 on soft ground, and down in weight with stronger jockey booked. Wyong 7YO 2. Mo The Great draws to get a soft run, and can improve sharply back on firm footing third-up.

How to play it: Estroverto each way. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 6 CLASS 1 HCP (1500m):

Keen on lightly raced and talented Randwick 6YO 1. Traminer with the winkers going on. Has hit the line hard in two provincial runs off a lengthy break, and can peak third-up stepping from 1200m to this trip.

Dangers: Improving 5YO 3. Sea Echo has just missed in two of his last three when ridden with a close sit, and draws to do similar here from the inside gate. Rosehill stallion 7. Morethannumberone has done his best work late in last three at the provincials, and draws to get good cover back in the field, with leading metro hoop aboard. Big watch on 4YO 10. Command King who let down strong from midfield to win on debut at Goulburn, and drops sharply in weight for this tougher test.

How to play it: Traminer to win. Odds and Evens: Odds

Traminer runs second at Gosford on October 29

Race 7 BM 64 HCP (2000m):

Randwick 4YO 3. Clever Man can bring us home with a bang fifth-up, and drawn to get plenty of cover. Has hit the line late in his last three against deeper opposition, and finds a perfect time to reach 2000m.

Dangers: Consistent Newcastle 5YO 2. Prospero is the clear threat from the inside barrier. Flashed home to win a CL1 three runs back before again working home well behind a couple of handy ones. Mudgee 5YO 1. Will To Excel did his best work late at big odds second-up in a tougher Highway, but back up 3.5kg to 58kg against a few of these is a query.

How to play it: Clever Man to win. Odds and Evens: Split.

Clever Man runs second at Gosford on November 10
