Waller Fields A Strong Team At Kembla (Tuesday)

By John Schell

Chris Waller will send a couple of gallopers to Kembla Grange on Tuesday and has high hopes the pair can perform well when Dulcet ($13 on TAB) and Marenaro ($19) contest the Join The Warra Cub Today Benchmark 64 Handicap (1600m).

While Waller also had pre-post favourite Ravenclaw ($3.90 favourite) in the Punters Pavillion With Brad Davidson March 15 Maiden Plate (1000m), the trainer said he was likely to miss the race and be saved for another day.

Waller said despite both being double odds in early markets, he thinks Dulcet, to be ridden by Lee Magorrian, and Marenaro, with Zac Lloyd in the saddle, can fly the stable flag.

“Dulcet is a consistent type,” said Waller.

“He’s got a win and a couple of placings from five starts and he had his first four starts in Victoria.

“We originally took him to Melbourne with the hope of getting to the Victoria Derby but we put him out after he ran fifth in the Geelong Classic as favourite.

“He’s had a run back from a break in Sydney and he ran well when finishing fourth at Canterbury.

“If he runs up to that he’ll be hard to beat in this. The step up to the mile suits.”

Marenaro has won one race from seven starts and Waller thinks he can figure prominently as well.

“He’s won a maiden at Gosford over 1900m and he resumed from a spell with a solid enough effort at Canterbury in the same race that Dulcet ran in,” said Waller.

Rachel King returns to NSW racing at Kembla Grange having been riding in Japan in recent months.

She has a number of leading chances headed by Bank Heist ($3.10) for trainer Michael Freedman in the opening race, the HIM Kembla Grange Classic Day March 15 Midway Maiden Handicap (1500m).

King will also partner Journo ($14) in race two for trainer Matthew Smith, as well as stablemate Caring Lass ($26) in the same event Dulcet and Marenaro contest.

Her other two rides are Kunnese ($4.40) in the Jansz Ladies Lawn March 15 Provincial Class 1 Handicap (1000m) and Opito Ballerina ($4.80 fav) in the Peroni Kembla Grange Classic March 15 Conditional Benchmark 68 Handicap (1300m).
