Mudgee Race Club will be hoping the weather is more kind to them when they stage Friday’s $75,000 Robert Oatley Mudgee Cup over 1400m.
Last year’s meeting was abandoned after six races were run with a severe thunderstorm belting through the area resulting in the Cup being postponed.
Two months later the Mudgee Cup was run with local trainer Mack Griffith claiming the race with Osman who narrowly defeated the Kris Lees-trained favourite Little Beginnings.

Lees took out the Mudgee Cup in 2023 when Tavi Time bolted in by nearly seven lengths.
The Mudgee Cup usually attracts a strong line-up, being a qualifying race for the $3 million Big Dance run at Royal Randwick in November next year.
Mudgee’s race meeting is one of regional NSW’s most anticipated racing events with tickets starting at $35 and premium hospitality packages available up to $175.
MRC’s Chairman, Tony Brown said the afternoon is the highlight of the local racing and social calendar.
“Robert Oatley Mudgee Cup Day is more than just a raceday, it’s a celebration of country racing, community spirit and Mudgee’s world-class welcome and hospitality,” Mr Brown said.
“Racegoers can look forward to a day of excellent horse racing, delicious food, wine and beverages, and as always, a very vibrant social atmosphere.
“From trackside concourse seating, including a new and very limited reserved concourse area, to the Yves Luncheon and Big Dance Marquees, there’s an experience to suit every racing enthusiast.
“The atmosphere every year is charged with friendliness and fun, and it is always a great way to kick off your festive season.
“The party mood, the fashion and the excitement on the track really showcases what country racing is all about and brings out the best in our community.
“And adding to the fun and glamour of the day is the ever-popular Fashions on the Field, where guests will compete for fantastic prizes across a range of categories.”
Mr Brown added the Club is proud to again welcome Robert Oatley as the annual sponsor and offer a significant raceday event that attracts both locals and visitors from across NSW and interstate.
“As our flagship event, the Mudgee Cup is the highlight of our racing calendar and carries a real sense of anticipation and excitement each year.
“Whether you’re a serious racing fan or just here for a great day out with friends, you’ll find something special at this year’s event,” he concluded.
The Mudgee Cup is supported by two $50,000 events – the Mudgee Cup Day Sprint (1200m) and the Super Maiden (1400m) bringing total prizemoney on the day to $355,000.
Tickets are on sale (online only) with various seating and hospitality options available which are limited to ensure the comfort and safety of patrons.
