Trainer Is 'Frilled' With Unbeaten Mare's Condition (Kembla, Thursday)

Trainer Matthew Smith is confident speed machine Frilled will give rivals something to catch again when his emerging talent attempts to remain unbeaten in Thursday's Bomaderry Bowling Club Benchmark 64 Handicap (1000m) at Kembla Grange.

The classy daughter of Star Witness will look to make it three victories from as many starts as she makes her return with stablemate All The Girls in the opening event.

Frilled hasn't been beaten in a trial or at the races in her career and put together a pair of impressive victories over 1000m at Nowra and Kembla last preparation.

She is a $1.60 TAB favourite to complete a winning hat-trick with star rider Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle from barrier one.

"She is quick, there is no doubt about that," Smith said.

"We have only given her the one trial this time in so I guess she might be a tad vulnerable first up but I thought why waste another trial, we may as well run her.

"She is going well and I would say she will be hard to beat. We will see if they can run her down."

Smith has only ever tested Frilled over 1000m but is keen to get the mare over longer sprint trips as she gets more runs under her belt while also giving her a crack at metropolitan grade.

"We will get her up to 1100m or 1200m this preparation," Smith said.

"We will give her this run and then probably go to a Midweek race in town and then we will see where she is up to then.

"I think she is a pretty nice mare and one I would love to see down the straight (at Flemington), I think she would be awesome down there."

Stablemate All Girls has been campaigning in Victoria this preparation with two victories and a placing from six starts. Both of those wins came on synthetic track including a last start effort over 1000m at Pakenham on August 28.

"She took a bit of a liking to the polytracks so we kept her down there. I don't know why she couldn't run well but she does seem to enjoy those polytracks.

"We thought we would give her a run back here on the grass and see what happens."

Smith will use the 3kg claim of Rebecca Bronett Prag to get All Girls in with 57kg. The Not A Single Doubt mare is a $16 chance to make it back-to-back victories.
