Former Kiwi To Take Toppling In Wyong's Sky Racing Summer Provincial Heat

By Gary Harley

The second heat of the Sky Racing Summer Provincial Series highlights Wyong’s seven-race program on Thursday. The first heat was held at Hawkesbury last week and the remaining three heats will be run at Kembla, Gosford and Newcastle. The $150,000 Final is scheduled for January 2 at Wyong.

On Thursday, the former Kiwi mare Wicked Wench ($3.90 favourite on TAB), trained these days at Gosford by Adam Duggan, will be hard to beat despite a wide barrier. Wicked Wench was transferred to Kris Lees after a debut second at Otaki in New Zealand in November 2018.

She had six starts for Lees for a maiden win at Hawkesbury and a second placing at Wyong. Since joining Duggan’s stable the mare has had two starts for an easy Grafton win and an unlucky second at Gosford on November 10. Tim Clark rode Wicked Wench at Gosford when she had to work hard to lead from an outside barrier.

RACE 1, WYONG EQUINE CLINIC MAIDEN HANDICAP, 1100M: Nelspruit ($3.50) is on debut after a for length barrier trial win on this track on November 11. The son of Zoustar is quick and has drawn nicely with Avdulla aboard. Jaytees ($2 fav) has placed in 11 of 13 starts and he has speed to burn. Glock ($4.20) was runner-up first up and he has a chance.
SELECTIONS: 2 NELSPRUIT, 1 JAYTEES, 4 GLOCK

RACE 2, VALE JOHN McDERMOTT CHAMPION CALLER & CHAMPION BLOKE MAIDEN, 1350M: Big Lion ($4) has been placed in four of five starts and this is a lovely race for him. He was good first-up at Hawkesbury two weeks ago when only a length behind the smart Edmond. He has raced well second-up and has the rails barrier and Jason Collett. Dizzy Dawn ($10) ran on strong when runner-up on this track last start and Mission Bravo ($5) went okay first-up at Hawkesbury recently.
SELECTIONS: 1 BIG LION, 8 DIZZY DAWN, 6 MISSION BRAVO

RACE 3, WYONG EQUINE CLINIC MAIDEN PLATE, 1600M: Shamani ($2.70 fav) turned in an eye-catching performance when she came from the tail of the field to finish third, half a length behind the winner in her only start at Kembla on October 10. She has had a quiet trial since and the trip is ideal. Yes No Maybe So ($6.50) is on debut and is trialling well while Mister Ripley ($5.50) continues to race well.
SELECTIONS: 9 SHAMANI, 7 YES NO MAYBE, SO 1 MISTER RIPLEY

RACE 4, WYONG’S NEXT RACE MEETING DECEMBER 10 MAIDEN PLATE, 1000M: Stoltz ($3 fav) put the writing on the wall when beaten a half-head at Canberra first up on November 3. He has speed to burn and he was nailed on the line at Canberra. He has a tricky draw but Berry rides. Zouly ($3.70) is a former South Australian now with Joe Pride. She hasn’t raced since being placed at Gawler in June but she is trialling well. Pacific Ocean ($6.50) resumes and he has been close up in recent trials.
SELECTIONS: 5 STOLTZ, 12 ZOULY, 1 PACIFIC OCEAN

RACE 5, NO EXCUSE FOR ABUSE – DOMESTIC & FAMILY VIOLENCE AWARENESS WEEK CLASS 1, 1350M: Edmond ($3.50 fav) after a close second at Newcastle first-up, broke through for his first win at Hawkesbury on November 11. He was close up in two starts on metropolitan tracks in the winter. He has drawn well and has a couple of gear changes. Titanium Power ($10) looked good winning on debut at Hawkesbury on November 11. Mollycoddle ($5.50) was an easy winner on this track on November 7.
SELECTIONS: 3 EDMOND, 6 TITANIUM POWER, 8 MOLLYCODDLE

RACE 6, SKY RACING PROVINCIAL SERIES HEAT 2, 1350M: Wicked Wench ($3.90 fav) has been in top form since joining the new stable. She overcame difficulties before an easy first-up win at Grafton on October 20. She was nailed late at Gosford last start and she is even fitter now. Great Danger ($5) has drawn to run well and he wasn’t far away first-up at Canterbury. Trajection ($4) is well placed in this race after winning three races last prep.
SELECTIONS: 13 WICKED WENCH, 1 GREAT DANGER, 3 TRAJECTION

RACE 7, WYONG EQUINE CLINIC B/M 64 HANDICAP, 1600M: Buba ($3.50 fav) is knocking on the door after two placings this prep. She stormed home when placed first-up on the Kensington Track on October 28. Second-up she was narrowly beaten at Hawkesbury. All Things ($7.50) was placed first-up and he has good second-up form. Surjin ($17) can improve in this field.
SELECTIONS: 2 BUBA, 1 ALL THINGS, 10 SURJIN
