Former Kiwi Ready For Oz Break Through Win (Wyong, Thurs)

By Gary Harley

Former New Zealand filly Comme Bella Fille ($2 favourite on TAB) is set to break through for her first Australian win at Thursday’s Wyong race meeting. The John O’Shea-trained 3-year-old will contest the 2100m We Care Connect Class 1 & Maiden Plate with Tommy Berry aboard.

Comme Bella Fille had three starts in NZ for a win at Matamata and a placing at Te Rapa. She has had two starts in Australia with her best performance at Newcastle last start when a close second over 1600m. Comme Bella Fille is well-weighted under the set weight conditions.

Local Wyong trainers Kristen Buchanan, Damien Lane and Brett Partelle all have winning prospects in the final three races. Buchanan saddles up Favourite Oakfield Arrow ($2.60) in the Wyong Leagues Club Group Benchmark 64 Handicap (1350m). Oakfield Arrow was beaten half a length in a strong Class 2 on Scone Cup Day.

Lanes Budhwar ($6.50) is good each-way value in the Wyong Roos Foundation Benchmark 64 Handicap (1350m). The 4-year-old had no luck on Scone Cup Day, however, his previous run when second at Gosford on ANZAC Day was good.

Partelle’s short course sprinter Rifles ($4.40) was an easy Newcastle winner last start and he will be hard to beat in the 1100m Wyong Bowling Club Handicap.

RACE 1, WYONG ROOS FOUNDATION MAIDEN PLATE, 1000M: Compassionate ($3.10) is a speedy filly that had very good trial form before a three-length fourth on debut at Newcastle on May 22. She is in a good stable and expect a big improvement. Walkin’Talkin’ ($1.90 fav) was beaten a length on debut on Scone Cup Day while Buckin Rippa ($5) has a place chance.
SELECTIONS: 8 COMPASSIONATE, 7 WALKIN’TALKIN’, 1 BUCKIN RIPPA

RACE 2, BELLBIRDS PROVINCIAL & COUNTRY MAIDEN HANDICAP, 1100M: Scone 3-year-old Comonic ($2.50 fav) is knocking on the door after placings in his only two starts. He was beaten half a length in a strong Scone maiden on Cup Day. Last start he was narrowly beaten in a Gosford Maiden on May 27. He has speed and has drawn well. Nice Water ($4) had no luck when runner-up at Tamworth last start. Playful ($15) is on debut after a nice trial.
SELECTIONS: 1 COMONIC, 3 NICE WATER, 6 PLAYFUL

RACE 3, CENTRAL COAST VOLUNTEER RESCUE ASSOCIATION MAIDEN HANDICAP, 1600M: Light Up My World ($2 fav) wasn’t far away when runner-up at Hawkesbury last start. Back in November, the filly ran on from the back when beaten 2¼ lengths at Kembla. She is well placed in this field. Angela Sistina ($3.30) led when beaten three lengths at Kembla first-up. Dunlee ($5) has been placed in six of his 11 starts and he ran on well when third at Hawkesbury first-up.
SELECTIONS: 2 LIGHT UP MY WORLD, 3 ANGELA SISTINA, 4 DUNLEE

RACE 4, WE CARE CONNECT CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE, 2100M: Former Kiwi Comme Bella Fille ($2 fav) should break through for her first Australian win. She was never on the track when a close second at Newcastle second up over 1600m. The step up to 2100m should be no problem. Mexican Standoff ($14) was placed at Gosford last start after good country form. Upscale ($4.60) has been runner-up in two of her past three starts.
SELECTIONS: 9 COMME BELLA FILLE, 3 MEXICAN STANDOFF, 7 UPSCALE

RACE 5, CENTRAL COAST KIDS IN NEED MAIDEN PLATE, 1350M: Exterminate ($2.10 fav) had a change in stable before an eye-catching close second to boom maiden Osamu at Newcastle on May 1. Last start he lost his rider at Scone on May 14 and was narrowly beaten at Newcastle in July last year. Dulcero’s ($3) country form is okay and River Tycoon ($7) has a chance.
SELECTIONS: 4 EXTERMINATE, 9 DULCERO, 7 RIVER TYCOON

RACE 6, WYONG LEAGUES CLUB GROUP B/M 64, 1350M: Smart Success ($4) came from a mile back when a fast-finishing third at Newcastle six weeks ago. She hasn’t raced since and she had good form last preparation. The mare has drawn well and Josh Parr has the mount. Oakfield Arrow ($2.60 fav) was narrowly beaten in a strong race on Scone Cup day and will run well on the home track. Leave Me Be ($10) can run okay.
SELECTIONS: 5 SMART SUCCESS, 6 OAKFIELD ARROW, 8 LEAVE ME BE

RACE 7, WYONG ROOS FOUNDATION B/M 64 HANDICAP, 1350M: Budhwar ($6.50) is ready to win after two starts for new trainer Damien Lane. He was never on the track in a quality class 2 on Scone Cup Day and two starts back he was only beaten a length at Gosford. Explosive Truth ($4.60 fav)  is racing well with a Newcastle win first-up and a close second at Kembla last start. Lake Tai ($5) has good country form.
SELECTIONS: 10 BUDHWAR, 6 EXPLOSIVE TRUTH, 7 LAKE TAI

RACE 8, WYONG BOWLING CLUB B/M 68, 1100M: Rifles ($4.40) returned to form with an easy Newcastle win last start. He is a winner at Wyong where he is trained and he has the speed to overcome a tricky draw. No Laughing Matter ($2.20 fav) resumes on the back of a nice trial and she is talented. Toro Toro ($7.50) is capable of a bold showing.
SELECTIONS: 1 RIFLES, 4 NO LAUGHING MATTER, 2 TORO TORO
