World's Best Horse Winx Aims For Australian Racing First At Royal Randwick This Saturday

The world’s highest-rated racehorse aims for Australian racing history at Royal Randwick this Saturday in the first Group One of the season and in a race named in her honour by the Australian Turf Club.

Sydney’s mighty mare Winx bids for an Australian thoroughbred racing record 26th consecutive victory in the Group One $500,000 Winx Stakes, a race which has been elevated to Group One status this year.

Winx ($1.12 TAB Fixed Odds) takes on a field filled with fellow Group One winners, including Godolphin’s glamour colt Kementari ($7 TAB Fixed Odds), D’argento ($18 TAB Fixed Odds) and Unforgotten ($51 TAB Fixed Odds) from champion trainer Chris Waller’s team, and Ace High ($31 TAB Fixed Odds) for trainer David Payne.

On a special day in Sydney racing ahead of the Everest Carnival this Spring, Australian Turf Club will pay tribute to Winx with free souvenir flags for her supporters and a special live art installation near the Theatre Of The Horse.

ATC will also auction Winx’s saddle cloth from Saturday signed by Chris Waller and her jockey Hugh Bowman and donate proceeds to drought relief through Aussie Helpers and injured jockeys and their families through the National Jockeys Trust.

Saturday’s nine-race card also features the first leg of the Darley Princess Series, with the running of the Group 2 $200,000 Darley Silver Shadow Stakes for the three year old fillies.

Longines Golden Slipper Stakes runner-up Oohood is the $2.40 TAB Fixed Odds favourite ahead of Fiesta ($4.20 TAB Fixed Odds) and Outback Barbie ($4.80 TAB Fixed Odds).

Three Group 3 races on Saturday – the $150,000 Sydney Markets Up and Coming Stakes, $150,000 Nexon Show County Quality and $150,000 Ryde Toyota Toy Show Quality – add to a super card.

Australian Turf Club General Manager of Racing James Ross said: “The elevation of the Winx Stakes to a Group One this year has drawn a very high-quality field, with the clash of Winx and Kementari a highlight event ahead of even bigger Spring features.’’

Tickets for all ATC racedays and Everest Carnival are now on sale, offering up to 20 per cent discounts for early bookings and further discounts for group bookings.

Royal Randwick and all ATC racecourses provide free parking and free high capacity WiFi
