Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Wednesday’s Warwick Farm meeting. Selections based on a soft track.
Race 1 - 12:50PM TAB HANDICAP (1100 METRES) |

8. Swordplay is back after being scratched at the barriers last week and all things being equal she has to be hard to beat. Her two trials have been strong wins, showing speed, and she’s put good margins on them. She should be hard to catch on her home track.
Dangers: 1. Penpel has the race experience from a solid second behind Agarwood at this track a month ago. Scratched from the heavy last week and strikes a bit better going here. Expect she’ll hold her form and be in the finish somewhere. 4. Majestic Legend trialled a couple of times in January before a break and both trials in May were pretty handy. In good hands and any support for her would be significant. 2. Jarrito is another first starter and he found the line well late down the outside in her latest trial at Warwick Farm. Has a handy draw and no surprise if she shows up.
How to play it: Swordplay WIN ($2.30 TAB Fixed Odds).
Swordplay wins a Rosehill trial on May 9
Race 2 - 1:25PM ASAHI SUPER DRY PLATE (1300 METRES) |
---|
5. Frosty Girl is on debut and considering her first trial was at 1045m she was sharp in scoring a nice win a 783m trial at Warwick Farm a few weeks ago. Still a little green in that trial so open to plenty of improvement and has to be respected.
Dangers: 3. Cinsault has been placed in all five starts to date and not seen since running second on a heavy track at Canterbury in July, six lengths off Extremely Hardys. Both trials sound with the latest a second to Weeping Woman. Likely runs well again. 2. Catonahotinroof has been freshened up with a trial win since a fair effort at Canberra a month ago. Has an each-way chance. 1. Cantarito had three starts over the late spring and early summer with a debut second to Verona Rose her best showing. No surprise if she improves into her second preparation.
How to play it: Frosty Girl WIN ($2.40 TAB Fixed Odds).
Frosty Girl wins a Warwick Farm trial on May 13
Race 3 - 2:00PM HITOTSU AT ARROWFIELD PLATE (1100 METRES) |
---|
1. Dyami hasn’t raced since a debut second to Mogul Monarch at Hawkesbury in August. Easy trial winner last week at Rosehill and looks a major player.
Dangers: 3. Celerity was placed behind Enriched when resuming here back in August then placed again at Hawkesbury before another break. Won both trials this time around and is one of the chances. 2. Marais is now an 11 start maiden but has nine placings against his name. Odds-on when third at Wyong about six weeks ago. Gets in okay with the claim for in-form apprentice so not out of it. 6. Regimental Colours has been in the market in all three starts for two placings, fitter for two trials and the claim is a plus. Has a show.
How to play it: Dyami WIN ($3.00 TAB Fixed Odds).
Race 4 - 2:35PM VINNIE THREE-TIME CHAMPION SIRE HANDICAP (1600 METRES) |
---|
5. Sounds Unusual looks ready to win after seconds in both runs back over the mile at this track. Favourite last time but likely bumped into a superior heavy tracker there. Close to peak now and soft range suits. Entitled to go close.
Dangers: 8. Canara caught the eye two runs back when placed at Kensington but a shade disappointing at Canterbury last week. Blinkers go on again and while just one win from 17 starts she’s entitled to another chance. 1. Rise To It might want a shade further but this is easier than second-up when beaten three lengths by Cormac T at Scone. Gate one and the claim gives him a fighting chance. 4. Earth Dance is looking for further but expect improvement up to the mile second-up.
How to play it: Sounds Unusual WIN ($2.00 TAB Fixed Odds).
Sounds Unusual runs second at Warwick Farm on May 21
Race 5 - 3:10PM HAWAII FIVE OH @ VINERY STUD HANDICAP (2200 METRES) |
---|
6. Highborn Harry has been racing consistently this time in with placings in three of his four starts including a late charging third at Scone in the Midway a couple of weeks ago. Looks ready for the step up in distance and should be competitive.
Dangers: 1. Black Run was game in defeat when chasing the leader all the way only to be run down by a good heavy track horse. Fourth-up now and at peak so looms as a big chance to break through. 5. Trapalanda has been sound in two runs in Australia and comes back a notch in grade after an even fifth at Gosford almost a month ago. Doesn’t need to improve a whole lot to be in the finish and a win wouldn’t surprise. 2. Up And Under was ridden in front here two weeks ago and was reeled in easily in the straight when third. Just the one win in 19 starts but with a different scenario this time he could be harder to beat.
How to play it: Highborn Harry EACH-WAY ($5.50 TAB Fixed Odds).
Highborn Harry runs third at Scone on May 17
Race 6 - 3:45PM TRAFFIC WARDEN @ DARLEY HANDICAP (1100 METRES) |
---|
8. Manaajem looked smart winning her maiden at Wyong then pulled up lame when an odds-on favourite at Kensington back in January. Rested and has looked good in her two trials leading into this. Draws to get every chance and if she’s above average she’ll take beating.
Dangers: 11. Our Little Star is a consistent mare who broke through at Hawkesbury two runs back then freshened up after another placing at Kembla Grange in March. Handy trial winner a few weeks ago and an each-way chance fresh. 6. Pierolite boxed on pretty well to hold third on a heavy 10 at this track two weeks ago and he’d likely appreciate a return to a soft track. Racing well and has to be considered. 9. Night Sky did the job easily to win on debut before $1.55 and a shade disappointing at Wyong a month ago. Freshened up and getting away from a heavy track likely a plus.
How to play it: Manaajem WIN ($2.30 TAB Fixed Odds).
Manaajem runs second in a Warwick Farm trial on May 26
Race 7 - 4:20PM VALE SYD BROWN HANDICAP (1300 METRES) |
---|
6. Kadall isn’t far off a win at this level and he did a good job to run third in a very strong form race at Scone last time out. Hit the lead at the 200m and was reeled in by Oh Diamond Lil while the runner-up Mickey’s Medal won on Saturday. Go well here.
Dangers: 11. Believe In Angels had some support at each-way odds when resuming here two weeks ago and just ran into one better on the day. Fitter for it and likely a soft track is better for him too. Can only improve and should be in the finish somewhere. 15. Ivan’s Hero doesn’t win out of turn but he’ll be better off away from a heavy track after holding his ground behind Cruel Summer at Kensington a few weeks ago. Each-way hopes. 9. Fiddlers Green resumes and did win fresh last time in before racing fairly consistently. Fitter for two trials and no surprise if he shows up.
How to play it: Kadall WIN ($4.40 TAB Fixed Odds).
Kadall runs third at Scone on May 17
