Warwick Farm Winners - Tips For Wednesday 20th August

By Ray Hickson

Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Wednesday’s Warwick Farm meeting. Selections based on a heavy track.

Race 1 - 1:25PM KEENELAND SEPTEMBER YEARLING SALE HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

3. Burma Star made a dash for home first-up at Canterbury only to be cut down late, but he did fight quite well when the winner stuck the head in front. Slight change of gear might be significant and he’s had the heavy track run under his belt. Can only be better for it and hard to beat.

Dangers: 4. Defiance is on debut and you couldn’t fault his two trials in the past few weeks including the latest on a heavy track. Any support would be significant. Stablemates 5. Gus The Great and 6. Isle Of Wight have both trialled okay on heavy ground recently and no surprise to see either show up on their home deck.

How to play it: Burma Star WIN ($1.60 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 2 - 2:00PM INGLIS XTRA BONUS MAIDEN SERIES HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

10. Koibito found it too sharp for her on debut, getting back early, but she still ran a nice race behind Nashville Jack at Randwick last month. Back in class and up in trip are pluses for her and she should be a lot more competitive.

Dangers: 9. Spice Prawn has tended to get a long way back in her races this time in which isn’t helping. Ran on into fourth at Canterbury last time after a close second to Without Peer fresh. The latter’s a handy form line. Worth another chance. 5. Mean As was given a good sounding out to win his latest trial at Warwick Farm on a heavy track over the shorter 779m. Market a good pointer at the 1300m. 8. Beside The Ocean has some race fitness from a solid enough debut at Kensington on a soft 6 a month ago and could give a sight.

How to play it: Koibito WIN ($3.90 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 3 - 2:35PM TAB HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

7. Southern Heiress is a filly on the way up and she followed a runaway Newcastle maiden with with a solid effort to remain unbeaten at Canterbury two weeks ago. She was strong on the line there and is a good chance again.

Dangers: 8. Vanessi has a 2kg turnaround on Southern Heiress for their clash and that gives her a shot at turning the tables. Was only first-up there so a bit fitter and she’s a threat. 6. Fleeting Spirit is trialling nicely for a handy first-up performance though she’s not been tested on a wet track on race day. Improved with each run last time in and if she does that again she should run well. 3. Tonkatsu Goddess is a last start Kembla winner on a heavy 10 so that holds her in good stead for a rise in class here.

How to play it: Southern Heiress WIN ($2.90 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 4 - 3:10PM CAPTIVANT @ KIA ORA HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

4. Prima Bella is a proven heavy tracker and she ran right up to some good support when scoring over this track and distance three weeks ago. Up in weight but in career best form at the moment and no reason she won’t go close.

Dangers: 2. President is an interesting runner now with the Jason Coyle stable and gelded. Won a maiden first-up last time in and his two recent trials have been in good company. If he handles the heavy on race day he could surprise. 6. Bev’s Nine has won two from two at the provincials with his debut win on a soft 7. Toughed it out to score at Kembla Grange back onto a good track almost a month ago. Has to be included in the chances. 7. Cambar won his first three starts including his debut on a heavy track and was a Highway winner at Rosehill on a soft 7 so the conditions hold no fears.

How to play it: Prima Bella WIN ($3.60 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 5 - 3:45PM ASAHI SUPER DRY HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

2. Kapakiri ran on from the back when resuming at Kensington with a close up fifth over 1400m. The extra trip a plus and while he’s yet to win under 1800m the heavy track helps him to that end. Sure to run well.

Dangers: 4. Fairway Star handled the conditions nicely to score an impressive win over this course on a deteriorating track. Yet to win on heavy but the track was downgraded last time after her race so that’s no minus. Can show up again. 12. American Starlet is getting close to a win and she probably looked the winner fleetingly before Fairway Star cut her down. Racing consistently and is an each-way chance. 6. Investment hasn't raced for a month since winning over 1800m at Randwick and while the mile is short of her best a heavy track brings her right into calculations.

How to play it: Kapakiri WIN ($6 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 6 - 4:20PM HAWAII FIVE OH @ VINERY HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

9. The Replicant revelled in the ground to score a rare win at this track two starts ago then typically close up again at Kensington last week. His record says you can never leave him out of discussions, particularly on a heavy track, and with the scratchings he has a big chance.

Dangers: 10. United Kingdom is a market watch first-up having raced just once in the last nine months and with no exposed wet track form. Quiet trials haven’t given a lot away but is proven fresh. Keep safe. 8. Duke Of Camden is up in grade after winning at Goulburn just over a week ago but is proven in heavy ground so the leap may not be quite so big. 12. Exclusive Artist resumes having contested the Adrian Knox before a spell. Outclassed there but previous form was promising. Yet to see a heavy and that's the major query but keep in mind.

How to play it: The Replicant WIN ($2.50 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 7 - 4:55PM PRIVATE LIFE @ COOLMORE HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

14. Ringarosa has been honest in three runs for the new stable and showed she’s not too far off a win with a close second at Canterbury two weeks ago on heavy ground. Versatile and would only have to hold form to be a genuine hope.

Dangers: 13. O’Invincible was runner-up at Canterbury two starts back with Ringarosa in third then odds-on favourite at Kembla and just outgunned on the heavy 10 there. Drops in weight and has to be considered. 3. Metaphorically won what’s turned out to be a handy form race when leading all the way a month ago. Just has to do it on a more testing track and he’d be one of the chances. 1. Tenderize is proven on heavy ground and resumes in favourable conditions but with a poor first-up record. Trials good and blinkers on first-up so could surprise.

How to play it: Ringarosa EACH-WAY ($3.60 TAB Fixed Odds).
