Rosehill Gardens & Canterbury Park In Festive Spirit This Weekend

A festive season atmosphere mixes with Group racing at Rosehill Gardens as Saturday racing returns to Sydney for the Group 3 $160,000 Iron Jack Festival Stakes, part of back-to-back meetings over the weekend.

This Saturday’s Rosehill Gardens meeting will follow the second meeting of the season of the record-breaking Kia Friday Night Racing at Canterbury Park.

Santa and his elves will be on course for the children and families at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, whilst a host of free family entertainment and the hugely popular Canterbury Foodies Market are again on offer this Friday night.

The ATC Foundation will sell Icy Poles on Friday night with all proceeds going to the NSW Rural Fire Service for its bushfire appeal.

Both meetings have attracted good size fields and competitive betting races – with 118 final acceptances over nine races at Rosehill Gardens and 92 runners over the eight races at Canterbury Park.

The Godolphin James Cummings-trained Ranier for jockey Kathy O’Hara has opened the early $4.20 TAB fixed odds favourite in the Iron Jack Festival Stakes in a wide-open betting race.

The reigning Country Championships winner Bobbing for jockey James Innes Jnr and Scone trainer Bernie Kelly is the $6 second favourite, along with another country-trained galloper Don’t Give A Damn ($6) for Goulburn’s Danny Williams and jockey Glyn Schofield.

In Saturday’s second feature race, the early favourite in the Listed $140,000 Drinkwise Starlight Stakes is the reigning Kosciuszko winner Handle The Truth ($2.70), for top jockey Nash Rawiller and Canberra trainer Keith Dryden.

Bon Amis, following a first-up third in the inaugural running of the $1 million The Hunter at Newcastle, is the second TAB favourite ($4.80) for trainer Jason Deamer and jockey Samantha Clenton.

The Rosehill Gardens track was rated a Good 4 on Thursday morning. Rosehill Gardens and all ATC racecourses provide free parking and free high capacity WiFi.

General admission gates open at 12.15pm this Saturday with the first race due to start at 1.15pm and the final event, race 9 at 6.15pm.

Entry to Canterbury Park for all KIA Friday Night Racing meetings is free, with the gates opened from 5.15pm, and the first race due to start at 6.15pm.
