Jockey Quotes - Premier's Cup

Avilius didn't have the clearest of paths but pushed out to chase down I Am Serious and confirm his status as a big spring player.

Find out what the jockeys made of their runs in the G3 Premier's Cup (1900m) at Rosehill Gardens.

Glyn Schofield (Avilius): “He’s a lovely horse to ride, he gives you that much confidence. He’s tired, he’s pulled up and he knows he’s been in a race today even though I wasn’t hard on him. I could feel walking back he’s got his head on the ground and he’s feeling a little bit sorry for himself. He was on empty late. I was very impressed with his win."

"We don’t want to reinvent the wheel with him, he’s got a nice turn of speed, he’s a relaxed character, there’s no point riding him upside down and getting him confused. He knows his job and he knows how to accelerate when I need him to."

Avilius staying unbeaten in Australia

Tye Angland (Auvray): “Good run first up, covered a little bit of ground with cover, just had to wait a few strides around the corner to get that right run through.”

Jay Ford (Destiny's Kiss): “Not a noted first up performer, he’ll only improve with the run.”

Andrew Adkins (Emperor's Way): “He was a little bit plain, had a nice run throughout but just one-batted to the line.”

Rachel King (Testashadow): “Really super run for an older horse, just got beaten by two quite nice ones.”

James McDonald (First Crush): “Needs further.”

Adam Hyeronimus (Sons Of John): “Not too sure what to make of the run, presented at the 300m like he was going to win but was just a bit one-paced the last furlong.”

Sam Weatherley (Liapari): “Ran through the line strong, but just kept getting dragged back further and further in the race.”

James Innes Jnr (Mighty Lucky): “He’s just a tricky one to place, he’s won a few good races early, he gets in well at the weights, but he’s just not up to this grade anymore.”

Tim Clark (Dark Eyes): “Much improved effort, appreciated the sting out of the track.”

Kerrin McEvoy (I Am Serious): “Good run, obviously beaten by a smart one, she acquitted herself well, she’s in for a good preparation.”

Jason Collett (Peribsen): “Trapped wide throughout.”

Kathy O’Hara (Salsonic): “Finished off strongly again, just wanted a quicker tempo.”
