Jockey Quotes - Group 1 Golden Rose

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 1 $1 million Chandon Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens.

Damian Lane (Jacquinot): “He was great. We discussed with the owners pre-race that perhaps they weren’t making up much ground. Just said we can’t really do anything else because he doesn’t jump that well. I knew I’d be off the speed and there might have been a bit more pressure than it looked like on paper than it unfolded. Today was by far his best run. The way he let down off that tempo was really good.”

“He was really a big baby in the Autumn. Just so raw. You thought if he takes that next step he could go on with it but not many do. He really has. Everything he does he gets more professional. Hopefully he can still find a bit more improvement from here.”

James McDonald (In Secret): “She has run enormous.”

Ben Melham (Zou Tiger): “Had a good run in front. Was a very pleasing run.”

Mark Zahra (Daumier): “Was a little bit keen with cover. Didn’t finish off as hoped.”

Jason Collett (Sejardan): “Ran as well as he can.”

Kerrin McEvoy (Political Debate): “Just found them a bit sharp today. Maybe just stretch him out in trip to see if he can get back to his best form.”

Josh Parr (Promitto): “Quite taken by him as a horse. He’s a striking individual and a really good effort here today.”

Sam Clipperton (Golden Mile): “Super effort. Wasn’t the intention to be as close as what we were. Just under the circumstances we had to ride it that way and he fought on very bravely.”

Tim Clark (Brosnan): “He got back. He made up a little bit of ground late. The further the better for him.”

Chad Schofield (Basquiat): “We rode him a bit quieter today, three wide with cover. The winner was just beside us. Just boxed on in the straight.”

Regan Bayliss (Fast Witness): “We were following the winner. We lost his back when the pressure came on. The owners are going to have a lot of fun with him. He’s a nice horse.”

Luke Nolen (Millane): “Sound run. Would have loved it a bit firmer. He brings a lot of rain with him.”

Brenton Avdulla (Fireburn): “She was awesome. My race was beaten when the barrier draw came out. If they decide to run her next week it will take a good one to beat her.”

Tommy Berry (She's Extreme): “She just got bumped around a lot mid-race. Never really got into a great rhythm even though in a good spot. It took away from her finish. Don’t drop off her in the Flight Stakes. She is going well.”

Blake Shinn (Paris Dior): “Wasn’t ideal from the draw. I think she is on top of the ground.”
