Hawkesbury Winners - Tips For Wednesday 13th April

By Ray Hickson

Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Wednesday’s Hawkesbury meeting. Selections based on a soft to heavy track.

Race 1 - 12:50PM HRC MOTEL 2YO FILLIES MAIDEN PLATE (1100 METRES)

2. Deep Expectation hasn’t raced for a month due to the Wellington Boot being called off but ticked over with a trial last week. Form through her last start second to Willinga Beast is very good and she’ll give a sight up on the pace.

Dangers: 8. Penitent is an interesting debutante and there was a bit to like about her latest trial at Warwick Farm a couple of weeks back. Could give some cheek. 5. In Secret is a very well bred filly purchased by Godolphin for $900,000 and she’s a big watch on debut. Last trial was a month ago and she wasn’t exposed at all so follow betting moves. 1. Atoine was never in it behind She’s Extreme in the Magic Night and that can be overlooked. Solid running into second when resuming at Canterbury and is better suited here.

How to play it: Deep Expectation WIN ($2.30 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: EVENS.

Race 2 - 1:25PM XXXX GOLD 2YO C&G MAIDEN PLATE (1100 METRES)

10. Shalailed looks to have the best credentials though has to prove himself on a wet track. Placed in a strong 2yo event at Randwick on Boxing Day and did get through the heavy okay in his latest trial. Should run well.

Dangers: 11. Sir Artie was expected to perform on debut back in January but disappointed and has been gelded. Trialled behind Paris Dior last week and if he has any luck from an awkward gate he can be in the finish. 1. Burgunder is out of former classy mare Pinot and was given a test to win a trial at Randwick last month. Any support would be noteworthy and no surprise if he measures up. 7. Mr Rock It hasn’t raced since an even effort in a small field behind Fireburn back in December and he’s a big watch here. No recent trials but showed something at only start so could surprise.

How to play it: Shalailed WIN ($2.70 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Race 3 - 2:00PM BLAKES MARINE 3&4YO BENCHMARK 72 HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

1. Norwegian Bliss has done nothing wrong winning all four starts to date and handles all conditions. She hasn’t trialled publicly since February but down in class on latest win and if the 1100m isn’t a bit too sharp she could be too classy. Read trainer Nathan Doyle's comments here.

Dangers: 6. Way To The Stars had five weeks between runs going into an even second here over 1000m on a heavy track. Down in weight for a class rise but now he’s back on track expect him to run well again. 7. Six Again had support when he resumed at Warwick Farm three weeks ago and he held his ground without threatening. Down a notch in class here and he’s more than capable of improvement. 5. Stormborn would be aided by a drying track, she's consistent and won her only start here.

How to play it: Norwegian Bliss WIN ($2.30 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Race 4 - 2:35PM ST JOHNS PARK BOWLING CLUB BM78 HANDICAP (2100 METRES)

2. Military Mission was far too good for a similar field at Canterbury two weeks ago when just second-up from a spell. Does rise in weight but he’ll be right on the speed again and only has to hold form to take plenty of catching.

Dangers: 10. Sound Of Cannons comes through the Warwick Farm 2400m race won by Forever You where he boxed on for third. Honest type who doesn’t win often but is capable of being in the placings. 8. Avion Fury was outclassed in the Chairmans at Group 2 level but a repeat of his previous effort when second at Rosehill over 1900m would have him in the mix. Of the others 9. Cognac is only third-up and getting out in distance now he could be an improver.

How to play it: Military Mission WIN ($1.55 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: EVENS.

Race 5 - 3:10PM BLACKTOWN WORKERS CLUB GROUP HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

9. Thalassophile is up quickly in class but couldn’t have been more impressive on a heavy track with her runaway win at Newcastle two weeks ago. She revelled in the heavy to win by six lengths. Extra 100m looks ideal and she can win again.

Dangers: 7. Crazy Train enjoyed a good preparation in the late winter and resumes with a couple of recent trials under the belt. She won first-up last time over 1300m on a soft 7 and is worth including in the each-way chances fresh again. 2. Calgary Queen wasn’t disgraced in a Provincial-Midway heat then boxed on into third at Canterbury after sitting on speed. Should be near peak fitness now and she can be competitive with blinkers on. 1. Sebrenco was a dominant winner at Newcastle two runs back on heavy ground then didn’t fire at Canterbury. Prepared to overlook that one, she could bounce back.

How to play it: Thalassophile WIN ($1.95 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: ODDS.

Race 6 - 3:45PM LIVING TURF 5YO & UP BENCHMARK 72 HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

7. Miss Fox rarely runs a bad race and she surged strongly late when resuming two weeks ago for a close second at Canterbury. Potential for good speed here would suit her, she’s drawn well and can only be fitter. Good chance.

Dangers: 1. Salina Dreaming was six weeks between runs when a handy second at Warwick Farm behind Athelric. Any improvement in the track would be to her advantage, she’s usually very competitive and is well placed down in class. 6. Switched loves it wet and will roll forward from a wide gate. Tried hard from on speed when third in the same race as Miss Fox last time. She’ll be around the mark if she can get across early. 10. Lillium is a query first-up since May last year where she was very competitive at this level. Both wins have been first-up, she handles a heavy track and if there’s any support it’d be worth noting.

How to play it: Miss Fox E/W ($5.50 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: ODDS.

Miss Fox runs second at Canterbury on March 30

Race 7 - 4:20PM JEFF PENDLEBURY BOOKMAKER CG&E BM72 HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

3. Too Much Caviar ran a super race first-up at Canterbury where he wasn’t able to get onto the speed but still hit the front in the straight, only to be nabbed late. Much fitter for that run on a heavy track and the extra 100m should see him look to control. Hard to beat.

Dangers: 6. Mach Schnell is a big watch first-up for Joe Pride since his last run at Ellerslie in February. Both wins are at 1400m so the trip shouldn’t be a worry and he did trial quite well a couple of weeks ago. 12. Caboche found some form in Queensland in the late spring and is right back in class on his last couple behind Gypsy Goddess. Will excel over a bit further but must be doing enough to earn reinstatement in the Sydney yard. 5. Jerle has disappointed on heavy tracks in two runs back but an improving surface could bring about some improvement, last win was on a soft 7 back in October.

How to play it: Too Much Caviar WIN ($3.00 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Too Much Caviar runs second at Canterbury on March 30

Race 8 - 4:55PM LANDER TOYOTA BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP (1500 METRES)

4. Tampering is just so honest he’ll give a great sight somewhere up near the speed. Too strong winning a Midway first-up on a heavy track and can only be fitter for the run given he hadn’t trialled. Go well in an even race.

Dangers: 6. Kalapour is an import with the Lees stable first-up since July last year. His form is over further than this but it’s common for talented imports to sprint well fresh. Check betting for any pointers. 20. Holy Reign needs everything to go his way being a backmarker but if they overdo it he does have a decent finish on him. Ran on well behind Tampering last start into fourth and is silly odds. 13. Marnix won twice at Warwick Farm in January then over six weeks between runs into the National Sprint at Canberra where he was beaten a length. A month’s gap again into this but is racing too well to ignore.

How to play it: Tampering E/W ($7.00 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: EVENS.
