Friday Focus - A Snapshot Of Saturday Racing

ROYAL RANDWICK – BEST BET: Race 9 # 11 – ARCTIC GLAMOUR

She is on an upwards ratings spiral, and all key indicators suggest she can improve again. The filly smashed the clock first-up at Rosehill and then backed it up with another impressive performance in the Listed Reginal Allen (1400m). She brings a dominant profile relative to her rivals, maps to have all favours from an inside draw and can handle all conditions. In addition, she brings the clear best last start figure, can sprint off slow/fast tempos and with even luck, expect her to be hard to hold out.

ROYAL RANDWICK – NEXT BEST: Race 4 # 15 – TERRITORY EXPRESS

He has gone to a new level this preparation and can undoubtedly make the step-in grade here. The gelding has raced consistently all campaign, and he savaged the line to score last start at Newcastle, running one of the fastest final 200m splits of the meeting. The four-year-old drops 5.5kg off that effort, which will only enhance his key attributes in acceleration/late strength, and he is suited to all race shapes. Each-way.

ROYAL RANDWICK – SECTIONAL STAR: Race 8 # 6 – ROOTS

She returned well in the Alan Brown Stakes (1400m) and has come in on a strong base figure, giving the impression she could be in for a peak campaign. The mare was run to suit, but she got shuffled back into an awkward spot before the final turn and lost her spot. To her credit, she ran on hard with her last few bounds having merit, and Punter's Intelligence recorded she ran one of the quickest final 200m splits of the meeting in 11.03. She has a solid second-up profile, maps to have all favours and jockey Tommy Berry sticks.

KEMBLA GRANGE – PROVINCIAL PICK: Race 1 # 1 – COUNTER

Is an import for Chris Waller, and both of his runs have had merit this campaign in high-rating races. First-up, he was checked/blocked at a critical stage behind subsequent metropolitan winner Matusalem and then had too much to do at Gosford second-up. Further, he was rising sharply in distance, 1500m-1900m, had to make a long-wide sustained run and clocked one of the meetings fastest final 200m splits to finish third. The four-year-old is ready to peak with a strong platform and going onto a bigger track suits.
