A group of Australia’s best three-year-old horses clash in a pivotal Group 1 this Saturday as the $81 million Sydney Everest Carnival continues at Rosehill Gardens on Yulong Golden Rose Day.
The $1m Yulong Golden Rose sees a filly as an early favourite, Tempted, trained by Ciaron Maher and with Ethan Brown aboard the $3 TAB popular elect.
Tempted would be just the second filly to win the race following Forensics’ victory in 2008.
Sydney’s 15-time champion trainer Chris Waller has a four-pronged attack in the Yulong Golden Rose including second and third favourites Autumn Boy (Jason Collett $4.60) and Wodeton (James McDonald $4.80).

Saturday’s 10-race card also includes the $400,000 Gr 2-Racing and Sports Golden Pendant, $300,000 Gr 2-Canadian Club Shannon Stakes and $250,000 Gr 3-Asahi Super Dry Colin Stephen Quality.
Australian Turf Club Head of Racing and Wagering, Nevesh Ramdhani said Yulong Golden Rose Day followed a spectacular opening day of the Sydney Everest carnival last Saturday.
“The Yulong Golden Rose has again attracted many of the very best three-year-olds in training and sits prominently as a pivotal Group 1 race on thespring calendar," Mr Ramdhani said.
“The race could also again have a bearing on the [$20m Group 1] TAB Everest with recent winners and placegetters going on to the world’s richest race on turf."
Tempted is owned by Godolphin who has won the Yulong Golden Rose eight times and holds a slot in the TAB Everest. Yes Yes Yes ran second in the 2019 Yulong Golden Rose before winning the TAB Everest.
In the $400,000 Gr 2-Racing and Sports Golden Pendant, three horses are vying for early favouritism around the $3.40-$3.60 TAB mark.
Manaal (Michael Freedman/Tommy Berry) is the $3.40 favourite, ahead of Gerringong for Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott and jockey Tim Clark, and Firestorm (Chris Waller/James McDonald) both at $3.60.
Over the past 20 years, 17 horses in the top three in betting have won the Racing and Sports Golden Pendant.
Group 1 winner Gringotts for Ciaron Maher and Tommy Berry has been well-supported from $3.60 into $2.80 favouritism in the Canadian Club Shannon Stakes ahead of Rise At Dawn for Ben, Will & JD Hayes and jockey Josh Parr at $4.40.
The Listed-Petaluma Heritage Stakes sees the return of TAB Golden Slipper winner Marhoona (Freedman/Berry) at $3.20 (in from $3.60) just ahead of the boom galloper Beadman for trainer Peter Snowden and rider James McDonald at $3.80.
