Winx Aims For More History In This Saturday's Colgate Optic White Stakes

The world’s highest rated horse Winx will strive for another piece of Australian racing history this Saturday when she lines up in the Group One $500,000 Colgate Optic White Stakes at Royal Randwick.

Winx is the star attraction on a stellar card of Group racing for week two of the Australian Turf Club’s Everest Carnival, which also features another key lead-up to the world’s richest race on turf.

Sydney’s mighty mare from the Chris Waller stable would become the first horse in history to win the Colgate Optic White Stakes for a third time as she also aims to win her 27th race in succession, and an eighth consecutive Group One victory.

Winx is a $1.10 TAB Fixed Odds favourite with her nearest rivals in the market stablemate Unforgotten ($12 TAB Fixed Odds) and the Kris Lees trained Le Romain ($12 TAB Fixed Odds).
Four of the confirmed TAB Everest runners line up in Saturday’s Group 2 $200,000 Bowermans Office Furniture Shorts.

Reigning TAB Everest champion Redzel is a $1.80 TAB Fixed Odds favourite on Saturday in the Bowermans Office Furniture Shorts as he continues toward the $13 million TAB Everest on 13 October.

Fellow TAB Everest runners – the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott stablemates English $5 TAB Fixed Odds) and Invincible Star ($5 TAB Fixed Odds) – are next in the market ahead of another TAB Everest starter in Brave Smash ($8.50 TAB Fixed Odds).

The Group Two $200,000 Darley Tea Rose Stakes continues the Darley Princess Series with one of the widest open betting fields on the program.

The John O’Shea trained Pretty In Pink is the $6 TAB Fixed Odds favourite, with a further five horses under $10, and just a $7 spread between nine of the 13 runners in the field.

The Group 3 $160,000 Bill Ritchie Handicap has attracted a high-quality field as several runners head towards the $1 million Group 1 TAB Epsom.

The Greg Hickman-trained Pierata ($2.90 TAB Fixed Odds), ahead of Siege Of Quebec ($5.00 TAB Fixed Odds) and cult hero Tom Melbourne ($7.50 TAB Fixed Odds).

The Group 3 $160,000 The Agency Real Estate Kingston Town Stakes has attracted a huge field, many heading to another Group One later in Spring in The Heineken 3 Metropolitan.

The James Cummings Godolphin import Avilius is the warm $2.40 TAB Fixed Odds favourite.

AustralianTurf Club Acting CEO James Heddo said: “Winx is a world champion and she creates an electric atmosphere among the crowd watching her live on the track.

“Whilst we are hoping she will race again in Sydney this Spring on Everest Day, this could be the last time Sydney gets to see her in her home city.”

The Royal Randwick track was rated a soft 5 on Thursday afternoon with fine weather forecast throughout Saturday.
