What Does It Feel Like To Own Winx?

By Brad Gray

Debbie Kepitis is one of the lucky owners of Winx and after the star mare rounded out her preparation for the Apollo Stakes this morning with an easy gallop, she gave an insight into what it is like.

“This is an amazing opportunity to be in a horse like Winx. I still pinch myself every day that (I'm) lucky enough to be involved in her,” Kepitis gushed.

“I am always nervous. Always. No matter what race it is.

“Generally I can’t eat. Racing is a funny game and you never know what’s going to happen. I’m always prepared and try to be calm but it’s not easy.

“(I’ll ) try and get through it all and she’ll shine.”

Kepitis, the daughter of legendary owner-breeder Bob Ingham, has had her share of Group One winners but admits that she gets the same kick out of seeing a maiden winner in her name cross the line first.

“I never expect anything when I buy horses,” said Kepitis.

“I just go into it for fun. It’s a game to me. I enjoy it (and) have a history in it. Records aren’t what I do it for, I do it for joy and she brings so much joy and to so many people. It’s amazing to have the public take her on board.”
