Western Sydney Clubs Join Rising Stars At Rosehill

Australian Turf Club joins with one of its longest-running partners in Western Sydney this Saturday for Clubs NSW Western Metropolitan San Domenico Raceday at Rosehill Gardens.

The Group 3 $250,000 Smithfield RSL San Domenico Stakes and Group 3 $250,000 CMNL Up and Coming Stakes – two key pathway races for three-year-olds heading towards spring – are the features of a 10-race card.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott stable’s The Instructor (jockey Adam Hyeronimus) is the $4.60 TAB favourite for the Smithfield RSL San Domenico Stakes in the 12-horse field while Chris Waller saddles up $3.10 favourite Caballus for jockey James McDonald in the CMNL Up and Coming Stakes of 12 runners.

Australian Turf Club Head of Racing and Wagering, James Ross said Saturday’s features had attracted strong fields of three-year-olds heading on different spring paths.

“A big number of some of Sydney’s most promising three-year-olds launch campaigns in these $250,000 Group 3 races ahead of other major targets in the spring," Mr Ross said.

Several of Western Sydney’s biggest and most popular Clubs are supporting the raceday, including Smithfield RSL, Canterbury-Hurlstone Park RSL, Dooleys RSL, Campbelltown Catholic Club, Cabra-Vale Diggers, Bankstown Sports Club, Merrylands RSL and Mounties.

Saturday is the 33rd consecutive year of a partnership with the Australian Turf Club and Sydney racing and will see a sold-out function of more than 500 people raise funds for charity partner Little Wings.

Since starting the annual raceday in 1990, Clubs NSW Western Metropolitan Region has raised more than $2 million for a range of charities. Little Wings – which has been the official charity partner since 2018 – flies children from remote areas across NSW to Westmead Hospital for repeat treatment.

Clubs NSW Western Metropolitan Region President, Bill Treloar said Little Wings would this year receive a $200,000 donation as part of Saturday’s event.

“We are delighted to again join with the ATC for this hugely popular raceday which will raise funds and awareness for Little Wings and a range of other charities," Mr Treloar said.

“It is very special for us to be at the award-winning Rosehill Gardens and as one of Western Sydney’s very best venues along with so many of our own great member clubs. We have come a long way in raising more than $2 million since 1990 at these racedays and when at the very first function we raised enough to buy one chainsaw."
