Warwick Farm Winners - Tips For Wednesday 15th October

By Ray Hickson

Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Wednesday’s Warwick Farm meeting. Selections based on a good track.

Race 1 - 2:05PM KEENELAND NOVEMBER BREEDING STOCK SALE HANDICAP (1400M)

5. Clanwilliam was set a bit of a task on debut but he showed a heap of potential as he swept home from the back into fourth at Rosehill two weeks ago. Smaller field, extra trip and kinder draw should all be positives for him. Good chance to be right in this finish.

Dangers: 1. Chicama comes through the same race and his run had a heap of merit after he drew wide and sat midfield before working home into third. Different set up here and out in trip he’ll likely be more forward and a real threat. 2. Augusta National looked as though the experience would do him plenty of good as he rallied late into third on debut at Newcastle over 1200m. Had some specking in betting there too. Blinkers go on and must be respected. 3. Cadillac Sam was only getting warm at the end of his debut at Kembla so he'll be another to appreciate the rise in distance.

How to play it: Clanwilliam WIN ($3.90 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 2 - 2:40PM PRECISE AIR HANDICAP (2400 METRES)

1. Mama Joy is an up and coming stayer who has won her last couple around the 2100m mark including a last stride win here three weeks back. Rises in weight but arguably meets a lesser field and shapes as though 2400m won’t be an issue. Sure to take beating again.

Dangers: 2. War Ribbon was under pressure before the turn in the same race but kept coming to be beaten a short margin in fourth place. Has to be fitter for that run, his first in over two months, and appears the major danger. 4. California Grass looked as though she was running into some form in September but did disappoint when well in the market here on October 6. No reason found for the poor effort and the blinkers come off. Wouldn’t shock if she rebounded. 3. Happiness was two months between runs when proving a bit too strong from on pace over 2000m at Kembla Grange. Wasn’t fancied there but will be this time with James McDonald on board.

How to play it: Mama Joy WIN ($3.30 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 3 - 3:15PM INGLIS READY2RACE SALE TOMORROW PLATE (1200 METRES)

13. Peace Bird was a real eye-catcher on debut at Canterbury, running on from last into fourth over the 1100m. Unwanted in betting there but the effort was strong, fitter and an extra bit of distance looks in her favour. She can improve into the major end here.

Dangers: 12. Miss Lola found the line with some purpose late in third over this track and distance three weeks ago. Loses McDonald but fitter for the run and she’d be entitled to improve. 6. Nitro has had a number of trials over the past 12 months and debuts on the back of a win at Randwick a month ago that looked pretty handy. Drawn the inside and any support would be significant. 4. Fernweh was solid in betting first-up at Canterbury and had a nice enough run but didn’t finish the race off as expected. Inclined to give another chance on the home track.

How to play it: Peace Bird WIN ($4.80 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 4 - 3:50PM HEADWATER @ VINERY STUD HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

2. Editing has shown some early promise and debuted in a very strong maiden before breaking through first-up last preparation. She wasn’t disgraced in Group 3 company in two subsequent starts. It’s been a month since her only public trial but drawn nicely and has a good chance if all is in order.

Dangers: 5. Golden Straand was particularly strong scoring at Rosehill two weeks ago over this trip. Up a notch in class but draws well again and no reason he can’t hold his form. 4. Midnight Dynamite sat on the speed in the same race when favourite and just weakened late into fourth. Has a weight turnaround in his favour and must be respected. 8. Heuristic has his first run for Bjorn Baker and has trialled particularly well on two occasions. Market some guide but happy to keep him safe.

How to play it: Editing WIN ($3.50 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 5 - 4:25PM ASAHI SUPER DRY HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

1. Cristal Clear is Big Dance bound after making it three straight with a popular win in the Dubbo Cup a couple of weeks ago. He’s really found his form of late and can settle handy from a soft gate or lead if needed. Claim is a plus and he’ll be the one to beat.

Dangers: 5. Jamberoo is a handy on pacer who resumes at a suitable trip. First-up last prep he was runner-up over this track and distance before winning second-up. He’s trialled well and can be expected to be competitive. 3. Geriatrix has been safely held in three runs since a promising first-up effort and this will be a little easier than those races where he wasn’t ever in the race. Has the right platform to be an improver. 8. Brosnan ran right up to some good support when getting the job done narrowly here three weeks ago over the mile. Up a couple of grades but gets the weight relief to the tune of 6kg so he has to stay in the mix.

How to play it: Cristal Clear WIN ($3.80 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 6 - 5:00PM THE AGENCY REAL ESTATE HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

3. Silver Wedding was an easy winner first-up last time in before jumping into stakes company and her latest run before a spell was more than respectable at Listed level. Nice recent trial and has drawn to effect. Expect she’ll be one of the hardest to beat.

Dangers: 4. Jellicious has been successful at odds-on in both runs this time in though was a late scratching from last week’s Kensington meeting when also short. Assuming all is in order she can continue her form though does lose McDonald to the top pick. 9. Crepe Myrtle is a Godolphin mare who hasn’t raced since a maiden win back on Boxing Day and is now with Joe Pride. Quiet trials and market will be a handy guide. 1. Kimberley Secrets will find this a little easier than last time when safely held behind Monte Supreme about six weeks ago. Freshened up and drawn well and is more than capable of being competitive here.

How to play it: Silver Wedding WIN ($3.30 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 7 - 5:35PM TAB HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

18. Ivan’s Hero hasn’t won for a while but his last start third at this track and trip was his best effort of late and he’ll look to back it up with blinkers first time. Strikes an open race, draws well enough in the middle and if the shades help him find an extra length it has him right in the game.

Dangers: 6. Rapbidash has surged back to form under Bjorn Baker and did a good job to hold them off after dashing for home early at Rosehill two weeks ago. Drawn wide here but it’s a good start point for that and with even luck she can go close. 13. Girijaala didn’t have the best of luck when resuming behind Jellicious three weeks ago and should have finished much closer. Up in distance, drawn soft and she’s well worth a look each-way. 10. Super Mirage is a big market watch at his first run for the Waller stable. An import whose only start was a win a year ago over a mile in the UK. Trials show us nothing so refer to the betting.

How to play it: Ivan’s Hero EACH-WAY ($11 TAB Fixed Odds).
