Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Monday’s Warwick Farm meeting. Selections based on a soft to heavy track.

8. Starboreta is a late starter but there’s nothing wrong with the way she’s trialling ahead of her debut. Finished her only official trial this prep off stylishly behind Ibaraki so that form looks good. If the support is there expecting her to go close.

Dangers: 1. Tyrol has trialled three times in the past month or so and won them all. Led the first two then came from well off them to score in the latest, all on varied track conditions. If he runs up to them he’s hard to beat. 5. Rebel Shadow scooted home along the rails for a close second to Cape Breton on debut. Ran meeting best sectionals there and likely to settle closer here. Must be respected. Read trainer Gary Portelli's comments here. 7. Promise Of Success is an interesting import having her first local start for John O’Shea. Showed improvement to win her second trial last week and bears close watching.

1. Kaapfever has been respectable in two runs since a two month freshen up and finished midfield in the Winter Cup last time. Blinkers go back on and has a super record at his home track and handles soft to heavy. Can be very competitive here.

Dangers: 5. Sky Horse looked gone on the turn but rallied to hold on to third at Randwick and perhaps a softer track will be in his favour. Does rise 5.5kg with no claim this time around but comes back in class. Good chance. 2. Brown Thomas was a solid winner over this course two runs back then loomed up and didn’t get past Sky Horse when fourth at Randwick. Up 2kg on the win at this track two runs back. Around the mark again. 4. Admit It brings different form and while he will have to step up a bit he’s consistent and handles all conditions. Down 4kg on his close second at Kembla last time and is an each-way chance.

8. Savoir Faire comes straight off a maiden win but it’s only a BM64 so the class rise isn’t too steep. Had to be impressed with how she rounded them up at this track on debut, no reason why she won’t handle a wet track and there looks enough speed to suit.

Dangers: 1. Black Bolt has only failed once and at that was on a soft 6 so it’s a small concern but everything else says he’s in this up to his ears. Liked his Gosford trial leading into this. Keep an eye on betting. 2. The Empire is an up and comer who made it three wins from seven starts with an easy victory second-up at Newcastle after sitting on the speed. No reason he couldn’t measure up. 3. Game Theory was quite disappointing first-up behind Gravina at Randwick but form in his first prep was solid and he's been placed in both heavy track starts. Can improve.

6. Kibosh hasn’t put in a bad one but went to a new level with a runaway win on a heavy track at Kembla, with the runner-up scoring at its next start confirming the form. Down a little in weight with the claim for in-form apprentice. Chance to measure up.

Dangers: 8. Duchess Adele found the line well behind a winner that led all the way to run a closing second in slightly stronger grade. If she can run up to that performance she’s in the finish again. 1. Cadenabbia beat subsequent winner Fastconi when scoring first-up on a heavy track then an even effort here on good ground last time. Down in class and 3kg claim helps. One of the main chances. 5. Jimmy’s Dream finally broke through at start seven when an easy winner on a heavy track at Kembla in a small field. Could go on with it now.

6. Derbari looks ready to win after two runs back. Sat outside the lead, was outsprinted on the turn then hit the front only to be run down late at Canterbury last time. Home track, 1400m and wet track are all ticks. Take beating.

Dangers: 12. The Guru could run a big race fresh first-up since a game fourth in the Spring Provincial Final at Wyong on a heavy track. Latest trial was solid and in her last win she ran down Duais giving her 4kg. Keep safe. 2. Kobe Rocks led and was narrowly denied at Canterbury second-up, couldn’t find the front at Rosehill last time but boxed away fairly. Better suited here and heavy track form is good. Has to be given another chance. 8. Rubamos has been around the mark in three runs since a first-up win. Close up fourth as favourite on a heavy track two runs ago, not disgraced in another race of depth at Rosehill since. Has a show.

7. Daphne Jean has only been beaten once in four starts and she picked them up from well back when resuming at Gosford in the style of a handy horse. That was 1100m so has to jump in trip but it’s not a tough 1400m here. Chance to step up.

Dangers: 2. Exotic Ruby comes down in class on her last few in Saturday company and did have go sideways for a while before finishing fourth to Majestic Shot who got away from her late. Wide gate no issue at this start and handles the wet. Go well. 4. St Covet’s Spirit is now one win from 23 but she is racing well enough to say if things go right for her she can break through. Good run in the Hawkesbury Rush then never in it behind Lost And Running. Did a bit of chasing last time when fourth at Randwick. Has to be included back to a 72. 1. Café Royal is a front runner who gave a good sight in a similar race here third-up beaten half a length. That was on a good track, any improvement in the surface would help her out.

13. Egyptian Missile will relish the return to a wet track after finishing close up in a similar race here on good ground. Showed a dazzling turn of foot to win on a soft 7 at Nowra prior to that. Good each-way chance.

Dangers: 10. Bowery Breeze resumes and has a good first-up record and wet track credentials. Given an easy time in her latest trial and while she’s yet to win on her home track she should run a cheeky race. 7. Selburose is a big market watch first-up since failing in a Group 3 in April. Held together in her recent trial, James McDonald rides with blinkers on. Her chances also improve if the track does. Keep safe. 8. Van Giz had a perfect run and launched down the outside to win the race Egyptian Missile comes through. Placed in three of four heavy track runs and wide gate suits her. Definite chance. 9. Hellenism has to go into exotics and quaddies after resuming with a brave second in a 78 at Rosehill. Wants an improving track but is above average.
