Vale Mr Jack Ashman (Funeral Details)

Racing NSW has been advised of the passing of Mr Jack Ashman.

Jack spent his early married life in Broken Hill where he and his wife were local school teachers.

They moved to Newcastle where Jack became an esteemed Lecturer in Statistics at Newcastle University.

Jack was a renowned rails bookmaker at Broadmeadow and fielded at other tracks in the Hunter Valley area during his bookmaking career.

Jack was a former Chairman of the NSW Bookmakers Co-operative Ltd for a period of more than 10 years and took over the chair at a time when the conversion from manual bookmaker ledgers to computerised bookmaking systems commenced.

He later served a dual role as Chairman of the Australian Bookmakers’ Association Pty Ltd.

Jack is survived by his wife, son and daughter. Funeral details are expected to be advised within the next 48 hours.
