Vale Mr Gordon McAllister (Funeral Details)

Racing NSW has been informed of the passing of former trainer Mr Gordon McAllister aged 72.

Mr McAllister started training at Broadmeadow in the mid-1970s where he prepared around 120 winners before finishing his training career in 2003.

The late Mr Gordon McAllister

Gordon led in numerous city winners including Steve's Return and Berlainsky, the latter winning the 1982 City Tattersalls Lightning (now the Sydney Stakes) at Randwick when an $81 roughie.

"When Berlainsky won that day Gordon had backed her to win enough money to pay off his house," recalled friend Allen Hardes.

"Gordon was a great storyteller and a character of the track who loved helping people out.

"That included young jockeys and he gave Kevin Gover, Greg Conlon and Scott Thurlow their first city winners.

"Most days you would find him enjoying a surf where he had been a member of Nobbys Surf Lifesaving Club since 1971."

Mr McAllister was also a body builder/weightlifter having won the Mr New South Wales title in 1973.

Gordon is survived by his four children Amy, Levi, Jai and Siena. Son Levi remains involved in the racing industry selling and delivering feed to many local horse trainers.

Newcastle Jockey Club will be acknowledging Mr McAllister at this Saturday's race meeting.

FUNERAL SERVICE: A service will be held from midday on Thursday, 12th June 2025 at Pettigrews Funerals, 7 Murray Dwyer Circuit, Mayfield West.
