Tony Brassel Claims 2019 TAB Champion Tipster Challenge

Tony Brassel, from Sky Thoroughbred Central, has shown his class across two epic days of racing during The Championships at Royal Randwick Racecourse to be crowned 2019 TAB Champion Tipster winner.

Brassel bolted straight to the lead after an impressive tipping performance on Day 1 of The Championships, then held off all challengers today with a further three winners.

He struck early with Bobbing ($6.70) in the Polytrack Provincial Championships Final and cemented his lead with Verry Elleegant ($2) in the Heineken 3 Australian Oaks and the mighty Winx ($1.04), a formality in the Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

Brassel finished with a total balance of $385.80 after the TAB placed a hypothetical $10 each-way on the selections of all tipsters in the designated feature events across both days of The Championships.

Sky Racing’s Andrew Bensley had another solid day to finish second on $302.80, with Channel 9’s Cameron Williams coming from well back in the 25-tipster field to finish third on $277.80.

Brassel’s victory, as 2019 TAB Champion Tipster, will see his nominated charity Médecins Sans Frontières [Doctors without Borders] receive a donation of $5000 from TAB.

“The TAB Champion Tipster competition is a great initiative by TAB and Racing NSW and I am thrilled to win it for the charity Médecins Sans Frontières,” Brassel said.

“It was a quality field of tipsters and it’s great to be joining the honour roll.”
