Stewards Release - Prized Icon & Jukebox

Please see the following reports from Racing NSW Stewards:-

PRIZED ICON Trainer James Cummings this morning made application to Racing NSW Stewards to exercise a discretion under the provisions of AR114(2)(a), to provide express permission for Prized Icon not to be withdrawn from the Group 1 Randwick Guineas to be conducted at Royal Randwick on Saturday, 4 March 2017 by 9am Friday morning, as the colt also holds an engagement in the Group 1 Australian Guineas at Flemington on the same day.

Mr Cummings advised Stewards that Prized Icon has arrived in Melbourne and will start in the Australian Guineas at Flemington on Saturday, should the Randwick Guineas meeting proceed on Saturday, 4 March 2017 as expected. Mr Cummings advised that should an early decision be made, following adverse weather conditions, to transfer the Randwick Guineas to a later date he would then consider returning Prized Icon to Sydney to start in the Randwick Guineas.

In granting Mr Cummings permission not to withdraw Prized Icon by 9am tomorrow from the Randwick Guineas, Stewards were mindful of AR115 which prevents a horse scratched prior to raceday being re-instated in the field, with only scratchings made on raceday being eligible for re-instatement.

Mr Cummings was advised once a firm decision was made in respect to the conduct of the Randwick meeting he would be expected to withdraw the horse from the relevant race immediately and at the latest by the prescribed scratching time.

Relevant Rules AR 114. (2)(a) Where a horse has been accepted for races to be run on the same day in different states or territories the nominator or trainer of the horse, unless he has the express permission of the Stewards, must by 9am on the day prior to the day of the race give to an official authorised to receive same, notice of the withdrawal of the horse from the race for which the horse has accepted but will not start.

AR 115. In the event of the postponement of a race or meeting to another day, scratchings made on the day on which such race or meeting as the case may be was to have been held shall be deemed to be void and the time for scratching extended to the prescribed scratching time on the day on which the race or race meeting is held.

JUKEBOX Racing NSW Stewards this morning received at veterinary clearance from Dr Peter Angus, certifying that Jukebox, an acceptor in the Group 2 UNSW Todman Stakes at Randwick on Saturday and the Group 3 Benz Canberra Black Opal Stakes at Canberra on Sunday, is cleared to race.

Jukebox will be examined by Racing NSW Senior Official Veterinarian Dr Craig Suann on Friday afternoon, after the colt is plated with its usual race plates, approved ¾ glue-on plates in front.
