Stars Align At Royal Randwick's Chinese Festival Of Racing

Superstar mare Winx takes centre stage for a special appearance at Royal Randwick this Saturday as the Australian Turf Club hosts The Star Chinese Festival of Racing and the $250,000 Group 2 The Star Apollo Stakes.

Traditional lion dances, Asian inspired foods, Chinese New Year theming across the racecourse and a special Owners Forum are among highlights of the third The Star Chinese Festival of Racing.

Leading Sydney trainers Bjorn Baker and Mark Newnham, part owner of Winx Peter Tighe and special guests from the Chinese and Australian racing and business communities will speak at the forum to help bring and educate new owners to join the horse racing industry.

The Vaiva Chinese Festival of Fashion & Racing in the Oaks Lawn Marquee and the Official Luncheon in the Royal Randwick Ballroom will celebrate the Lunar New Year.

Winx and her jockey Hugh Bowman along with four stablemates from the Chris Waller stable will take part in a 1200m gallop simulating race conditions at 2.35pm between races three and four.

Hugh Bowman will wear a microphone and camera to give the public an insight into the mare’s gallop as she prepares to chase a 23rd straight victory in the TAB Chipping Norton Stakes at Royal Randwick on Saturday 3 March.

The ATC will also make a special presentation to Hugh Bowman, recognising his Sydney Jockeys Premiership, along with his Japan Cup victory and subsequent World’s Best Jockey title.
The Royal Randwick track is currently rated a Good 4.

Bjorn Baker’s three year old colt Addictive Nature is the $3.80 TAB Fixed Odds favourite in The Star Apollo Stakes, ahead of the Kris Lees trained Prized Icon ($5 TAB Fixed Odds), Chris Waller runners Comin’ Through ($5 TAB Fixed Odds) and Endless Drama ($5.50 TAB Fixed Odds) and Mark Newnham’s in-form Lanciato ($8 TAB Fixed Odds).

Full markets for all races at Royal Randwick this Saturday are available from the TAB.

Saturday’s nine-race card starts at 12.45pm, with General Admission gates opening at 11.30am.
