She Will Reign Earns Her Own Special Place At Kembla Grange

Golden Slipper winner She Will Reign will be honoured again, this time at the home of her first win Kembla Grange, when she becomes the latest inductee into the provincial track’s winner’s room.

The walls of the winners’ room at Kembla are saved for group 1 winners that won their maidens at the track and She Will Reign joins an illustrious list, including Private Steer, Bentley Biscuit and Hot Danish. There will be more than 20 of She Will Reign’s owners at the meeting to see the picture put on the wall at the place it all began.

“It is a tradition we have here at Kembla Grange and to add a Golden Slipper winner to the room is fantastic,” Illawarra Turf Club chief executive Peter De Vries said.

“She Will Reign was only just outside the track record when she won over 1000m in December and who would have known we would be here honouring her within 12 months.

“The owners are very excited and coming down for the day and of course they have the Everest to look forward to.”

The ITC has named races after Darby Racing, which syndicated She Will Reign, Deanne Panya, who rode her to the maiden win, and Golden Slipper winning trainer and jockey, Gary Portelli and Ben Melham on Saturday’s eight race program.

Her preparation is on track for a return in the Moir Stakes, where Craig Williams will ride, before the Everest at Randwick on October 14.
