Royal Randwick Hosts Long Weekend Of Sydney Racing

Royal Randwick hosts a Sydney long weekend of racing starting Saturday with the running of the Listed $150,000 June Stakes on the course proper before a public holiday Monday meeting on the Kensington track.

Saturday’s nine-race card has again seen large acceptances with 126 runners, continuing several Saturdays post-Sydney Autumn Carnival with strong fields and a number of wide-open betting races.

The highly promising Godolphin sprinter Deprive to be ridden by Rachel King is the early $2.10 TAB fixed odds favourite in the June Stakes, ahead of Hawkes Racing’s Heart Conquered ($5) for jockey Jay Ford. Less than half a length separated the pair last start in a thrilling finish over the same track and distance.

Bon Amis who has won seven of its 15 starts including three first up from a spell resumes for trainer Jason Deamer and jockey Christian Reith at $6.

The Royal Randwick track was rated a soft 7 on Thursday morning following 44mm of rainfall over the racecourse since Tuesday morning.

A full track report with Royal Randwick Track Manager Nevesh Ramdhani for the course proper and also the Kensington track ahead of Monday’s meeting is available here:

Monday’s meeting on the Kensington Track will also see the Final of the Racing NSW Rising Star Apprentice Series.

The series has seen NSW and ACT indentured apprentice riders compete over a series of meetings across metropolitan, provincial and country tracks since September last year.

Points are awarded (7 win, 5 second, 3 third and 1 for all other placings) over the series.

Jenny Duggan on 57 points holds an unassailable lead over Robbie Dolan on 38 points heading into the final meeting.

Entry to Monday’s public holiday meeting is FREE for all patrons.
