Punter's Intelligence Wrap - Rosehill 5th July

When a two-year-old records faster time than his older counterparts it’s always a good sign and it’s no surprise that spring beckons Raging Force after he did just that at Rosehill on Saturday.

He did have first use of the track, which was upgraded to a soft 7 immediately after, as he ran 1:05.25 for the 1100m.

A few races later Storm The Ramparts ran 1:05.61, two lengths slower, in Benchmark 78 grade then Hi Dubai scored in the same class but against the fillies and mares in 1:06.24 which was six lengths slower.

The first 700m was run 0.07 seconds slower than Storm The Ramparts so the youngsters have really scooted home to run out clearly faster overall.

And the Peter Snowden-trained gelding won in a style we’d not seen before as he took a sit behind the speed before letting go when a gap opened.

Punter's Intelligence data showed he clocked 34.08 for his last 600m but it was the 400m-200m in 11.16 that really impressed as he accelerated and sustained the run with an 11.45 final 200m – all race best.

Worth noting behind him the run of Marchon on debut, he’s clocked a 34.26 final 600m. He did some work from the 600m-400m (11.26) to find the winner’s back but couldn’t then match his acceleration in the straight.

Given how slowly run the Captivant @ Kia Ora Handicap was run over the 1100m the run of runner-up Savagery Vibe was huge. She raced three back on the fence and didn’t appear to relish the tempo.

She’s run 34.03 for her last 600m to go down in a photo as she reeled off the fastest last 200m of the race in 11.33.

There were a couple of other nice performances in that race, most notably by Useapin first-up from a break.

She went to the line relatively untested as she had to check off Savagery Vibe’s heels a couple of times in front of her but she’s still run 34.02 for the last 600m. She matched the race’s fastest 400m-200m of 10.97 so it’s a case of what might have been had a run opened up.

The fastest last 600m of the meeting went to Lonhro’s Queen who finished eighth in this race, she ran 33.98 as she wound up late down the outside when the race was over and she was obviously unsuited to the lack of pressure early.

Zouripper was a beaten favourite in the Midway Handicap (1200m) but he can be noted down as a victim of the speed up front.

From the outside barrier he went back to last and when they’re running seven lengths slower than the TAB Highway over the same trip he was always going to struggle to pick them up.

He’s run the race’s fastest last 600m of 35.10 which included the fastest 600m-400m (11.90) and 400m-200m (11.40) and that’s where he spent the bulk of his petrol.

There was an eye-catching run both visually and against the clock in the Foundation Female Member Handicap (1200m) and that was by $81 chance Able Willie.

Drawn wide, he went back and he’s run the fastest sectionals from the 800m to the winning post and the only horse in his race to break 35 seconds running 34.76 for his last 600m.

It was a marked improvement from his two previous runs and perhaps back to Benchmark 78 level or at least when he’s drawn kinder he can put himself in the finish.

Sacred Rocks might have found one better in the Asahi Super Dry Handicap (1400m) but her effort confirmed what she showed in her win a few weeks earlier, which is she’s a promising mare.

She found herself in an awkward position and dictated to by the winner Brave One but once around his heels she ran the fastest last 400m of the race in 23.77 with the first two home the only horses to break 36 seconds for their last 600m.

Fastest last 600m: Lonhro’s Queen 33.98
