Punter's Intelligence Wrap - Randwick 6th July

Jockey Zac Lloyd stole the show at Royal Randwick on Saturday, riding four winners, and his steer on Tamerlane to win the feature was tactical perfection.

The Godolphin galloper jumped long odds in the Winter Stakes (1400m), but he bounced back to his best and wore down the heavily backed favourite Iknowastar.

Lloyd used Tamerlane's versatility/early speed to make Iknowastar work for the first 600m before that galloper found the front.

Further, Punter's Intelligence recorded he ran the first 800m in 48.27, approximately 3-3.5 lengths quicker than the Benchmark 78 Handicap, producing a good-even overall tempo after adjustments.

Tamerlane conserved energy before the turn, took a trail, got to the superior ground, and closed the door on King Of The Castle, who was full of running.

He maintained a strong finishing speed to the line and recorded 12.56 for his final 200m to hold off the late challengers.

King Of The Castle arguably should've won after being held up at that key stage, but once clear, he found the line well and ran 12.47 for his final furlong.

Essonne had no luck being checked/blocked at critical stages, was forced back into the inferior ground and still clocked the third fastest final 600m of the race in 35.64.

The flashing light run was Flying Crazy, who got too far back and was outpaced but picked up well in the straight.

He ran his final 600m in 34.96, approximately four lengths quicker than the race's next best.

Clear Thinking put her hand up to be a major contender in the upcoming $2 Million Kosciuszko after a breathtaking win in the TAB Highway (1200m).

The mare slipped at the start, got into an awkward spot throughout transit, wasn't suited to the sit/sprint race shape and was blocked for a run for most of the straight.

Once clear over the final furlong, she surged to the line with an improver's action to score, and the clock backed up her late visual strength.

She recorded the meeting's equal-quickest final 200m in 11.96. The Messara & Gavranich runner is on an upward ratings spiral and can continue progressing.

Tanglewood was suited but sprinted a slick 11.39 between the 400m-200m and Lisztomania caught the eye running the races fastest 600m-200m split in 22.74 before peaking on her run.

The Benchmark 72 event over 1300m won by Patchouli Dream rated extremely well against the day, and this, for reference, can be trusted with confidence.

The runs of placegetters Invader Zim and Lady Boss were both full of merit.

Invader Zim was first up after two trials and stepped out to 1300m for the first time.

He was caught three-wide out on a limb at a very fast pace, but to his credit, he kept wanting to find the line and ran the race's fastest final 200m in 12.17.

He has always promised ability and can go on with it this prep.

Lady Boss had genuine excuses after dipping at the start and was caught wide after being ridden up.
To her credit, she still recorded the race fastest 600m-200m in 23.27 before peaking on her run after exerting too much energy.

She can bounce back from an inside draw next start.

It's worth mentioning Strathtay, who responded under pressure to score in the Benchmark 78 assignment over 2000m.

He continues to step and has a bright future under Chris Waller's guidance.

Fastest last 600m: Miss Jennifer 34.44
