Peters-Waller Combination An Enticing Everest Prospect

By Ray Hickson

Owner Bob Peters has consolidated his growing association with champion trainer Chris Waller by securing Enticing Star to run in the $14m TAB Everest in the trainer’s slot.

Perth’s biggest owner now has three horses in Waller’s care, with confirmation Celebrity Dream has joined Enticing Star and Arcadia Queen in Sydney, and he’s rapt to how have two runners in Australia’s richest race.

Enticing Star, a winner of eight of her 10 starts and a last start second in the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes, is the eighth horse to be locked away for the October 19 feature.

Of course Arcadia Queen secured her place via The Star’s slot at the end of May.

“It’s been hanging there to see if we can get the second one in and it’s been done so that’s good,’’ Peters said.

“Hopefully they both get there in one piece and can perform for us on the day. I can’t do much more, it’s up to Chris and his team to get them there.

“He’s happy with both and they are coming along well, he must be happy because one of them got his slot.’’

Enticing Star runs second in the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes at Ascot

Enticing Star was talked about as a possible Everest runner last year as she put together an eight win picket fence.

The soon to be six-year-old mare is a $15 chance in TAB’s Everest market, with Santa Ana Lane holding favouritism, and Peters said she thoroughly deserves her place in the race.

“She should be unbeaten. Each time she was beaten she had a problem, being in season once and she still ran second in a Group 1 with mucous,’’ he said.

“Until she had those problems she was looking very good. I suppose the proof of the pudding will be in the eating when the time comes.’’

The program for Enticing Star towards the Everest is yet to be confirmed but Peters said she won’t be having more than two runs leading in.

This is the first time the Waller stable will be represented by a horse from within and early reports are positive about how the mare has settled into Sydney.

His slot in 2017 went to Deploy while last year Brave Smash ran eighth under the Chris Waller Racing banner.

“This year we have a new dynamic brought to the race with new shareholder arrangements in place and we are proud to this year have our slot represented by a horse from within our stable,’’ Waller said.

“Enticing Star has quickly progressed through the ranks and her race record shows she is simply a winner.”
