Newcastle Launches $11.2m Redeveloped Course Proper

Next Friday (17th March) is the official launch of the $11.2 million StrathAyr track redevelopment of the course proper at Newcastle.

The feature of the eight-race card is the Coca-Cola Newcastle Newmarket G3 over 1400m worth $150,000. This raceday is part of the Mercedes-Benz Newcastle Autumn Racing Carnival.

CEO Matt Benson said that the redeveloped all-weather course proper is unique and like no other in Australia, and exceptionally well-suited to 2YO’s over 900m.

“We want to target owners of 2YOs having their first start at Newcastle out of our 900m chute so that both the owners and their horse have a great experience,” said Mr. Benson. “Our wide, even track offers a long run into the first turn, a velodrome-like camber entering the straight and a 420m run to the post giving every horse a chance - and all this on an unequalled cushion of free-draining StrathAyr kikuyu,” he added.

In a bid to build a reputation as the ‘Newcastle ‘Nursery’ - Mr Benson said the NJC is celebrating the re-opening of their unrivaled 900m chute with a tailor-made incentive to attract owners of 2YOs having their first start at Newcastle Racecourse.

“Newcastle Jockey Club is delighted to offer four (4) complimentary three-course meals with a drink on arrival in our superb trackside Chevals Restaurant overlooking the winning post for owners of 2YOs having their first start at Newcastle Racecourse over 900m.”

And to add further sparkle to the offer will throw in a bottle of Moët & Chandon if their 2YO wins!

“Newcastle Jockey Club is the leading provincial race club in NSW and only two hours from Sydney, so we clearly want to attract more Sydney trainers – and owners - to our superb facility."
