Neil Evans' Tips For Wyong (Thursday)

By Neil Evans

Track Good 4 and rail True on Listed 2YO Classic day so should play fairly even

Race 1 MAIDEN PLATE (1350m):

Small field in the opener. Randwick 3YO filly 6. Miss Sure Shot looks well placed at the weights from a good draw after battling on okay resuming at Warwick Farm, and only just missed in a handy maiden at her second start in July.

Dangers: Warwick Farm 4YO gelding 2. Sea Echo has made a nice start to his career close-up at double figure odds on debut at Gosford before chasing home a smart one on this track, and looking for the extra trip now. Watch the market on resuming 3YO local filly 7. My Desire who has had one trial for form stable.

How to play it: Miss Sure Shot to win. Odds and Evens: (First 2): Evens

Race 2 METRO & PROV MAIDEN PLATE (1600m):

Hawkesbury 3YO gelding and ex-Queenslander 6. Submission dropped back from a stronger metro maiden to find the line well over a long trip at Muswellbrook, and will get a lovely run behind the speed.

Dangers: Rosehill 3YO filly 9. Dinado has had two solid enough runs this prep, and draws to get a nice trail.

How to play it: Submission to win. Odds and Evens: Split.

Race 3 CL1 & MAIDEN PLATE (2100m):

Always a testing battle of tactics and tempo over this trip. Rosehill 4YO gelding 1. Brilliant Mind has been a little inconsistent, although at much tougher BM 70 level, and while he's back up sharply in weight, has the quality to win this.

Dangers: Newcastle 4YO gelding 2. Into The Oblivion similarly has only one win from 18 starts, and generally in weaker company; while 4YO Warwick Farm mare 10. Lady Highly finished off okay third-up in a stronger 3YO Maiden at Rosehill, and will relish the extra journey.

How to play it: Brilliant Mind to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 4 MM WYONG 3YO & 4YO STAKES (1200m):

Outstanding edition, and might not be much between the lot on the line. Big fan of 4YO Newcastle mare 3. Think Free on the fresh side. Flew home to win a BM 70 at Newcastle off a let-up in winter, and before spelling was a dominant BM 72 winner at Warwick Farm coming from midfield. Has trialled twice, and this suits.

Dangers: Smart 3YO Randwick gelding 5. Diamond Thunder picked up where he left off last prep winning the Listed Brian Crowley at Randwick. Won only previous second-up run, and draws to get an ideal trail off the fence, and is the obvious threat. Talented 3YO Randwick gelding 4. Hightail also resumes off two improving trials. Only had two runs in spring, a strong second in Listed company at Moonee Valley before way outclassed in the Group 2 Run To The Rose. Randwick 3YO colt 7. Discharged has also come back in smart fashion leading all the way in a BM 70 at Canterbury after being competitive in strong 2YO company. Randwick 3YO gelding 6. Leviathan was also ultra competitive in high class 2YO company during winter, and resumed with a sound chasing effort behind the flying Burning Crown. Has enough early speed to get over from an awkward draw, and will be there for a long way.

How to play it: Think Free each way and box first four 3,4,5,6,7. Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 5 CL1 HCP (1000m):

As good a non-metro race in this grade as you could see at this time of the year, with naturally a stack of chances. Warwick Farm 3YO gelding 1. Exceed The Stars resumes for a smart stable off two trials, the latest run down on the wire after being pushed out from early in the straight, and first-up last time just missed at Canterbury.

Dangers: Progressive 3YO Godolphin colt 2. Auxin knocked up after leading first-up at Canterbury before chasing hard to defy a betting drift at this track. Back up in weight a little, but has tactical speed, and will find a cosy position from the inside barrier. Liked the trial of 3YO Randwick gelding 3. Chat who finished off nicely right behind the smart Edison, and looks forward enough, although obviously short of his best so will need plenty of speed on up front for him to get over the top. Wyong 3YO gelding 4. Designated took over on the point of the turn and careered away for a dominant first-up win this track and trip, although draws wider and this is tougher. Local 5YO mare 5. Invincible Kiss also takes on stronger after an impressive maiden win at Newcastle when stalking the speed from an inside gate. Drawn further out, but gets in light after form apprentice takes 3kg off. Another one trained on the track, 4YO mare 6. Oakfield Gettem can also give a sight first-up from a low draw after a smart trial win, and was only beaten a long head on debut in autumn behind Brazen Pine.

How to play it: Exceed The Stars to win and trifecta 1,2/1,2,3,4,5,6/1,2,3,4,5,6/1,2,3,4,5,6. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 6 MM WYONG 2YO CLASSIC (1100m):

Now the $200K feature for the 2YO's, and very keen on a Randwick filly who could go on to win the Golden Slipper in 6. Every Rose who was too strong on debut in the Group 3 Gimcrack, but already looks to have improved lengths after a stunning trial win. Super smart!

Dangers: Randwick colt 3. Strike has any amount of ability, and won easily on debut at Eagle Farm in the spring. Looks ready winning a recent trial, and draws the inside for leading juvenile stable. Rival Randwick colt 4. Farnan also has plenty of natural ability, and toyed with his rivals as a hot favourite on debut in Canberra; while stablemate colt to top selection, 5. Remorseless was close-up in a trial, but has a tricky first-up draw.

How to play it: Every Rose to win and quinella 3 and 6. Odds and Evens: Split

Every Rose wins at Randwick on October 5

Race 7 BM 64 HCP (1600m):

Big and wide open field over the mile to finish. Newcastle 4YO mare 5. Everard should be right at her peak fourth-up, and draws to park in a lovely trailing spot. Looked home last start this track before run down late, and senior metro rider sticks.

Dangers: Progressive 4YO Godolphin mare 9. Terroir has been beaten under a length in all four runs this prep, and should also be at her peak, with leading metro rider getting back on. Warwick Farm 4YO gelding 6. Fairy Me Home has ability, and wasn't far away second-up in a Class 1 at Gosford after being heavily backed. Local 6YO gelding 3. King Hewitt has finished off into place in his last couple, but just hasn't savaged the line. Hard fit now and draws to get a stack of cover on the inside, with rider claiming 3kg, and was scratched from Rosehill on Wed to be saved for this. Muswellbrook 8YO gelding 2. Disgraceful produced his best run in a long time powering home to win this track and trip last start, but will find it tough getting in from a very wide gate.

How to play it: Everard each way quinella 5 and 9. Odds and Evens: Odds.

Everard runs second at Wyong on November 28
