Neil Evans' Tips For Wyong (Thursday)

By Neil Evans

Track Good 4 and rail out 3m so on or near the pace early before gradual levelling out

Race 1 4YO & UP MAIDEN PLATE (1600m):

Tough opener with varying form-lines. Rosehill 4YO gelding 4. Corporal has run four 2nd placings in seven starts, and is the most progressive. Hit the line hard from well back at Newcastle before no match for a heavily backed smart one under lights at Canterbury, but this looks his race third-up.

Dangers: Warwick Farm 4YO gelding 5. Haunting Spirit hasn't been far away all prep, and stuck on well when heavily backed this track and trip last start. Nowra 5YO gelding 3. Beaurama has shown steady improvement this prep as he's edged up in trip, and the mile should suit fifth-up.

How to play it: Corporal to win and quinella 4 and 5. Odds and Evens: Split.

Corporal runs second at Canterbury on November 15

Race 2 MAIDEN PLATE (1000m):

Intriguing maiden, dominated by 3YO's. If Godolphin colt 1. Auxin races up to his ability, he's the one to beat. Was easy in betting when overhauled resuming at Canterbury, but drops 3.5kg from that, and on debut at the start of the year ran high class stablemate Microphone to under a length before beaten under three lengths in a Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude.

Dangers: Rosehill colt and first upper 3. Rubic Honour looks greatly improved from a brief first prep, and full of potential. Won both trials, the latest in dominant fashion when he took some time to settle and get across from a wide gate before effortlessly careering away to win with ease. Draws the fence. Promising 3YO Rosehill gelding 2. Masked Crusader (Toronado x She's Got Gears by Invincible Spirit) debuts off two trial wins for strong stable, although is drawn wide, but watch the market closely; while include 3YO Wyong filly 10. Great News after just missing on debut at Kembla when well backed.

How to play it: Auxin to win, Rubic Honour each way and trifecta 1,2,3/1,2,3,10/1,2,3,10. Odds and Evens: Split.

Race 3 4YO & UP MAIDEN HCP (1100m):

Much less quality here augurs well for 4YO Hawkesbury mare 4. Adelong (Medaglio D'oro x Snowgums by Redoubte's Choice) who looks nice and forward for her debut off two two trials, the latest well held together sitting outside the leader, and stable has a good early strike rate.

Dangers: Warwick Farm 4YO gelding 2. Sea Echo has trialled since a solid debut at Gosford seven weeks back, but drawn very wide; while watch for 4YO Hawkesbury gelding 7. Psicopatico to finish hard after closing late at home in his first run for nine months, and draws to get plenty of cover.

How to play it: Adelong to win. Odds and Evens: Evens.

Race 4 MAIDEN HCP (1350m):

Impeccably bred 3YO local filly 7. Reaching, by Japanese super sire Deep Impact out of multiple Group 1 winner Alinghi, should have won on debut at Newcastle when enduring a checkered run powering home, and extra distance looks ideal. Will again be forced a long way back from the outside gate, but has the pilot to engineer a winning finish.

Dangers: Newcastle 3YO filly 4. Atomic Pulse was heavily backed when not far away debuting at home before edged out a nose over further at Kempsey as an odds-on favourite. Tougher task here, but drawn to park in a stalking role on or near the speed. Another Godolphin charge makes his debut in 4YO gelding 1. Parades (Epaulette x High Step by Lonhro) who has had three trials, draws a nice gate, and wears blinkers. Watch the market on 3YO Wyong filly and stablemate to top selection 6. Jomajeki who failed badly on debut at Newcastle back in autumn, but draws the inside, and trainer has given her two trials and made significant gear changes; while 3YO Warwick Farm filly 12. Solid Foundation has found the well in all three runs this prep, and suited now by the longer trip.

How to play it: Reaching to win and box exacta 1,4,7. Odds and Evens: Split.

Race 5 CL1 & MAIDEN PLATE (2100m):

Moderate staying battle at set weights. Randwick 4YO mare 5. La Grisa continues to improve as the distances rise. Hit the line hard in two runs before a dominant maiden win at Newcastle charging over the top from midfield at just her third start. Plenty of staying potential, and trip looks ideal.

Dangers: Improving 3YO Warwick Farm gelding 2. Dhiaga can make it two wins from his last three after finishing nicely in similar grade at Canberra behind Fox Beat who then bolted in a BM 66 at Orange. Randwick 4YO gelding 1. Tyrrhenian also cruised home to win his maiden this track two runs back, but the handicapper hasn't missed him here after a game chasing effort in tougher BM 64 company. Warwick Farm 3YO gelding 3. Savvy Valentino just missed in a BM 58 at Goulburn before no match for Fox Beat in Canberra, and will need to improve further up 4.5kg from that run.

How to play it: La Grisa to win and quinella 2 and 5. Odds and Evens: Split.

Race 6 CL1 HCP (1350m):

Good race, with plenty of depth. Now that big-striding 4YO Randwick mare 3. Brunetta has cracked her maiden in dominant fashion, she can go on with it. Form prior in stronger races had been solid, and gets in terrific at the weights after rider's 3kg claim.

Dangers: Newcastle 4YO mare 5. Wicked Wench resumed off a long break with a convincing maiden win at Hawkesbury before stuck on okay in stronger class at Rosehill. On the eight day back-up, and draws to get a soft trail just off the speed. Watch the market on resuming 4YO Randwick mare 4. Merlanite who has had two trials, and wears blinkers for the first time. Kembla 5YO gelding 1. Auburn Boy had very consistent form through the winter before bumping into a couple of smarter ones resuming. Weighted to his best, but extra trip suits.

How to play it: Brunetta to win and quinella 3 and 5. Odds and Evens: Odds.

Brunetta wins at Kembla Grange on November 5

Race 7 WYONG TOWN PLATE CL4 HCP (1350m):

Plenty of chances again here headed by Kembla 4YO gelding 2. Spectre who is a smart enough horse early in his prep. Was $11 into $7 before an even run resuming at home when he flattened out late after looming up from the trail, and again draws to get a handy position just off the speed.

Dangers: Local 4YO mare 7. Commute has been banging on the door last few, and gets in very nicely on the limit weight. Was scratched from Warwick Farm on Wed. Warwick Farm 5YO gelding 1. Ahmad put three wins together a little under 12 months back, and was stretched out to 2400m before sent for a long spell. Was given a searching gallop in the second of two trials run in very poor visibility over 1200m, and the blinkers come off. Rival 4YO Warwick Farm gelding 3. Baeed was disappointing first up in a BM 66 at Orange as an easing favourite, but will improve off that run and down in weight; while another from Warwick Farm 4. Test Of War has been ultra reliable around BM 64 grade all prep, and draws to get a nice run, but this fields looks tougher than what he's used to.

How to play it: Spectre each way and box trifecta 2,7/1,2,3,4,7/1,2,3,4,7. Odds and Evens: Split.

Race 8 BM 64 HCP (1600m):

Fairly even and competitive mile to finish, with 4YO Newcastle mare 4. Everard ready to return to the winer's stall third-up. Resumed with a fair effort in a handy Class 2 at Newcastle before hitting the line hard at Hawkesbury, and extra ground is ideal.

Dangers: Honest 8YO Wyong gelding 3. Hammond Lane hasn't been far away in consecutive BM 85 country cups, and draws to get nice cover around midfield with top metro rider booked; while 7YO Randwick gelding 5. One Of The Kind was ridden forward last start to win this grade at Hawkesbury, and from the draw will give another sight in well at the weights after rider's 2kg claim.

How to play it: Everard to win. Odds and Evens: Split.
