Neil Evans' Tips For Gosford (Tuesday)

By Neil Evans

Track likely Soft 7 and rail True

Race 1 3YO MAIDEN HCP (1600m):

Break-through time for Pierro filly 2. Kiterro who has finished well into a place in four consecutive provincial runs. This is thinner than most of those battles, and leading metro hoop goes back on.

Dangers: Improving filly 3. Allinthistogether steps up sharply in trip off a nice closing debut at Canterbury.

How to play it: Kiterro to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 2 MAIDEN PLATE (1000m):

Back to the short course, and keen on three-year-old 4. Smarty Lee at his second start. Found trouble on debut at Canterbury when specked at double figure odds, and the blinkers have been removed.

Dangers: A lot to like about the recent trial of provincial Toronado three-year-old 5. Tocomah cruising away to win by more than four lengths, and he's the obvious threat on debut. Improving colt 2. Mendooran led for a long way first-up at Newcastle, and drew to get another soft run; while watching the betting on Deep Field three-year-old 1. Agrum who is on debut after two winning metro trials.

How to play it: Smarty Lee to win and trifecta: 4,5/1,2,4,5/1,2,4,5. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 3 2YO MAIDEN PLATE (1100m):

Tricky sprint for the juveniles with most on debut. One of those, All Too Hard filly 10. Beep Test looks ready to rock off two winning trials, the latest cruising across to lead and holding them at bay under a tight hold. Significantly trial jockey sticks like glue, and dam was right at home on rain-affected ground.

Dangers: Talented 3. Famous Pedrille looms as the best of the raced contenders. Improved sharply hitting the line from well back at his second start, and again drew to get a nice trail with cover off the speed. Big watch on 6. Own The Night who resumes off a six month break as a gelding for his first run in NSW off two forward trials. Include both 1. Allusionist at his second start, and 11. Glittery second-up in exotics.

How to play it: Beep Test to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 4 CLASS 1 HCP (1200m):

Tough three-year-old 5. Son Of Sampson has shown renewed vigour and great consistency this prep, hitting the line hard in four consecutive runs, twice unlucky not to have won. Draws to get cover back in the field, and likes soft ground.

Dangers: Capable and hard fit mare 3. Eye See Things has been right in the money in four straight runs since bolting in her maiden from the front in early April. Attacked the line hard in a deeper CL1, although she wouldn't want it any worse than Soft 7. Lightly raced four-year-old 2. Nelspruit stuck on well in that same race at Newcastle first-up for more than five months, and can improve sharply. Lightly raced filly 8. Paxos Miss is on the next line.

How to play it: Son Of Sampson to win and trifecta 2,3,5/2,3,5,8/2,3,5,8. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 5 BENCHMARK 64 HCP (2100m):

The customary battle of tactics over the longer journey, and there are plenty of hopes. Under-rated provincial five-year-old 7. Arabolini can strike, with blinkers going on a handy 2kg weight claim. Was six weeks between runs when finishing off okay in a similar race at Kembla, and peaks now over a little more ground.

Dangers: Expect five-year-old 1. True Marvel to roll across from a wider draw and try to find the front. Chased bravely here last start in his first run for a month, and stretches out in distance. Tough five-year-old 3. Devil Dan finished best to win a similar race two runs back, and blinkers go on. Provincial mare and renowned wet tracker 5. Apache Belle has ploughed through BM 58 grade with back-to-back wins and steps up in class at the right time.

How to play it: Arabolini each way. Odds and Evens: Odds a special

Race 6 BENCHMARK 64 HCP (1600m):

Good competitive battle over the mile. Like promising staying three-year-old 6. Jimmy's Dream who drops back from metro grade on a suitable surface. Rounded them up easily to win his maiden two runs back before sticking on strong under the same weight at Warwick Farm. Hasn't missed a place yet in eight career runs, and is headed for bigger prizes.

Dangers: Versatile mare 4. Justitia is well over the odds second-up from the inside gate. Did her best work late resuming in a deeper race over this distance at Newcastle, and won four straight last prep from 1500m up to a dominant BM 65 win over 2200m. Improving filly 10. Mon Amore gets a significant weight drop after working home strongly in weaker class at Scone; while seven-year-old 9. Achi Baba is a knockout hope with a light weight.

How to play it: Jimmy's Dream to win and quinella 4 and 6. Odds and Evens: Evens

Race 7 CLASS 1 HCP (1000m):

Progressive and tough filly 7. Kittyhawk Flyer is terrific value here in conditions she relishes. Finished too well to beat a very handy maiden field at Hawkesbury, and can progress much further.

Dangers: Smart filly 10. Princess Of Meydan is a serious threat second-up off a seven week break. Gave nothing else a chance in heavy ground at Goulburn, and has been fitted with a comfortable open class trial. Another promising filly 6. Duchess is drawn off the track, but if she can tuck in anywhere for cover, will be hard to hold out. Has held her own nicely in recent efforts, and blinkers have been added. Improving mare 2. On Her Word resumes without publicly trialling, but has run three second placings from four fresh starts.

How to play it: Kittyhawk Flyer and Princess Meydan both to win. Odds and Evens: Split

BEST BETS:
R1 2. KITERRO
R6 6. JIMMY'S DREAM

BEST VALUE:
R7 7. KITTYHAWK FLYER
