Leading Hand/Senior Groundsman - Racecourse & Facility Maintenance (Gosford)

Duties may include but are not limited to:- • Working with the Track Manager and his in his absence being responsible for ensuring that at all times a safe and attractive high quality venue is available for all users • Liaison with the Chief Executive as required and monitoring compliance by trainers, riders and stable hands with the Rules and Regulations of the industry and the Gosford Race Club • Liaison with RNSW stewards in regard to track monitoring and performance • Ensuring that Racecourse and training tracks maintenance and renovation are carried out in accordance with the Track Managers direction and in accordance with agreed industry standards • Assist Racecourse Manager with management of staff and supervision of contractors • Lawn Mowing, slashing, trimming, top dressing, fertilising, patching etc. • General gardens maintenance (weeding, spraying, pruning, watering) • Movement of running rail as required • Keeping areas clean & tidy • Using hand held implements • Operation of a range of vehicles as appropriate • Cleaning machinery (hand held and/or vehicular) and reporting any problems or issues to Racecourse Manager • Clean and maintain spouting and guttering on buildings • Maintenance including painting in and around buildings as required • Clean and maintain all horse stalls/swabbing stalls as directed • Assist in set up of course on racedays Inc rubbish bins, tables, chairs etc and perform raceday duties as assigned • Other duties that could be reasonably expected from such a position including non trade tasks incidental to the employees work • Undertake other related duties as required by Racecourse Manager.

Knowledge and skills required To effectively perform in the role the position holder is expected to have the following skills, experience, qualifications:

• Knowledge of Turf Management requirements • Sound knowledge of maintenance of formal gardens including soil conditioning • Ability to work independently or as part of a team and be self-motivated • Working knowledge of machinery (hand held and vehicular) • Ability to undertake manual handling in a safe manner • Basic literacy and numeracy skills • Communication skills to communicate with other staff and service providers • Excellent time management and organisational skills • Ability to work unsupervised and be extremely proactive • Sound knowledge of manual handling techniques. The candidate will require agility to be physically capable of manually lifting heavy objects • Knowledge, understanding and application of WH&S legislation and WRC policies and procedures • Be enthusiastic, innovative and demonstrate a flexible approach • Effective oral and interpersonal skills and the capacity to liaise with people at all levels • Strong customer service ethic • General operations and maintenance skills.

Qualifications • Chemicals Certificate • First Aid Certificate • Current Driver's Licence • Turf management and or horticulture qualifications will be seen as an advantage
