Ladies Celebrate The Opening Day Of The Sydney Carnival

The 2017 Sydney Carnival kicks off this Saturday in Group 1 style with Ladies Day at Rosehill Gardens.

Purchase a ‘Golden Carnival Pass’ and be rewarded with general admission entry to all six days of the Sydney Carnival including this Saturday’s race day.

The Golden Carnival Pass is available for purchase at theATC.com.au until 11.59pm, 16 March 2016.

Racegoers can also take advantage of free event transport which is included with all valid pre-purchased tickets and ATC Members cards to ensure a hassle free arrival and departure from Rosehill Gardens.

Patrons can put their most fashionable foot forward with the return of The Fashion Chute presented by theRaces.com.au. Contestants can register at ‘The Fashion Chute’ photowall opposite the Members turnstiles from 11.00am. Eight preliminary finalists will be selected to compete in the final on The Championships Day 2, Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes Day, for prizes including return Emirates flights to Europe and a Moët & Chandon VIP Experience in France.

Celebrating women, the Women in Sport Long Luncheon will be hosted by TAB’s Jaimee Rogers and feature guest speakers including jockey Deanne Panya as well as Olympic Gold Medal winning Australian Women’s Rugby Sevens stars, Ellia Green and Chloe Dalton as well as modern day pentathlon Olympic Gold Medal winner Chloe Esposito.

The Longines Golden Slipper Pin & Win competition will be on sale this weekend where purchasers will have the chance to win a Longines Master Collection watch valued at $4,175. All proceeds of the $5 pin purchase will be donated to SpinalCure Australia – The official 2017 Pin & Win Charity Partner.

The Group 1 $600,000 Coolmore Classic will be the highlight of Ladies Day marking the 22nd year of partnership between Coolmore Stud and the 1500m feature for fillies and mares.

A field of 19 runners has been accepted into the race with Chris Waller-trained Omei Sword opening as the $3.50 TAB Fixed Odds favourite.

The filly made up good ground in the Surround Stakes at Royal Randwick on a Heavy track last start, running second to La Bella Diosa who will also face the starter this Saturday.

New Zealand filly La Bella Diosa ($9.50 TAB Fixed Odds), trained by Mandy and Matt Brown boasts an impressive career record of five wins from seven starts including a hat-trick prior to a three-month spell. This will be her second up run this campaign.

Hong Kong-based jockey Sam Clipperton will travel to his home town to take the ride on Silent Sedition (13.00 TAB Fixed Odds). The last start winner is proven over the distance however is yet to race on the Rosehill Gardens track.

Leading International jockey William Buick will also fly to Australia to feature in the nine race card. Buick will partner with Coruscate ($6.00 TAB Fixed Odds) for John O’Shea in the Group 3 $175,000 Café Culture + Insitu Pago Pago Stakes where they will be hoping to secure ballot exemption into the $3.5 million Longines Golden Slipper next Saturday. The Exceed and Excel colt has had two starts for one win and a narrow second place.

Ducimus ($3.50 TAB Fixed Odds) for Hawkes Racing has opened as the punters elect in the 1200m sprint. The colt has had two wins from two starts however has only been tested on a Good surface.

The winner of the Group 3 $175,000 Chandon S Magic Night Stakes will also gain a free passage into the world’s richest two-year-old race.

Limbo Soul for Rosehill trainer Tim Martin opened on the first line of betting at $3.20 TAB Fixed Odds following her maiden 3.5 length win on 22 February at Rosehill Gardens.

In an open market, Tulip ($5.00 TAB Fixed Odds) will be competitive after her fourth place run in the Blue Diamond.

Gates Open at 11.00am with the first race at 12.30pm.

Rosehill Gardens has free high-capacity WiFi across the racecourse precinct.
