Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 3 $250,000 Smithfield RSL San Domenico Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens.
Tommy Berry (Raging Force): “It was a tricky race. He bounced well but he’s a horse we want to get to 1400m for the Golden Rose. Didn’t really have any plans today. Just wanted to get him comfortable. It didn’t feel like Zac was going quickly enough to lead me as well so I didn’t want to just give away the fence for no reason.
“But full credit to him that he didn’t want to over-race and do things wrong. He was happy to be there as well. It’s a new string to his bow. He got a bit lost in the straight and wanted to wander about a bit. I had to stop and grab hold of him but then he went again. He’s an exciting horse going forward.
“I probably tightened up the colt to my inside but when he felt him there he actually went again. When I actually pulled him off and got him going again, he probably wins pretty comfortably anyway. He’s a very raw horse, quite new. Will be a better horse in the Autumn but gee we’ll have some fun in the Spring.”
Raging Force wins the San Domenico
James McDonald (Wodeton): “He has gone enormous, the horse. If he didn’t have a check he would have probably gone close.”
Adam Hyeronimus (Beiwacht): “Loved the way he’s come back. He knows he’s a race horse now. He has really matured. He’s taking things in his stride. He has a good race in him this preparation.”
Tyler Schiller (Devil Night): “I thought he did a good job. Got stuck on the back of the wrong horse around the 400m which came back in our face. Stopped our momentum. He hit the line strongly.”
Jason Collett (Rivellino): “Didn’t step clean. Ran on great.”
Zac Lloyd (King Of Pop): “Just over-raced. He beat himself today.”
Donovan Dillon (Tom Vegas): “He’s a young horse. Only had the two starts. We always thought they were going to be a little bit sharp for him. At the top of the straight they sprinted away from him. He held his own.”
