Jockey Quotes - Roman Consul

Find out what the beaten jockeys made of their runs in the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick. Brenton Avdulla (Viridine): “He’s a very talented colt, he’s blessed with a ton of speed and he’s just got to learn to harness his energy a little bit. As soon as those gates open he’s just locked on and again today I was in trouble for the first 400m, he just wanted to run through the bridle off a slow speed. It wasn’t until they quickened up around the bend that he actually got into a rhythm, sure enough then I had to go.” “He worked through up inside them and put paid to them very quickly passed the 200m, he was pretty soft late. He’s got a lot of ability but he can’t be making these sort of mistakes when he steps up to the top grade. He’s a strong galloper, he’s a serious animal, just has to learn to harness that energy and if he gets into a fast run six [furlong] that’s going to be his go.”

Viridine makes it four from four in the Roman Consul

Tye Angland (Single Bullet): “He went super. Obviously just ran into a very smart one.” Kerrin McEvoy (Beau Geste): “He stuck on well. He didn’t have a trail, he was a little bit outpaced early but then he stayed on nicely the last furlong so he’ll probably go back up to 1400m and expect him to show some more.” Jason Collett (Albumin): “He’s got a great turn of foot ridden quiet but it’s either 100 miles an hour or at the back off the bridle for him at the moment. He just hasn’t quite found that medium.” Adam Hyeronimus (Shudabeen): “I thought it was a very good run, just blew out of condition in the last 100m so find a race for fillies and she’ll be right in it.” Sam Clipperton (Chauffeur): “He was disappointing. The race probably wasn’t run to suit but he was still entitled to finish closer.” Blake Shinn (The Mighty Fed): “He ran well. He probably just wants back in grade and up to 1400m I think might see a better result.” Check out the replays and results for Royal Randwick
