Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the $1,000,000 Yulong Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens.
Adam Hyeronimus (Beiwacht) : “He’s a talented horse. He was always going to win a good feature race like this.
“Not only Chris but the whole Godolphin team and James (Cummings), who had him previously. He’s been a difficult horse and I don’t think I’ve ever ridden a horse as many starts as I have with this horse and very thankful to them to leave me on him.
“He has been a work in progress and he’s come back this preparation and he’s realised he’s a racehorse, he’s taken everything in his stride. He’s had to give the other horses weight in the leadup races and his runs have still been terrific.
“I did tell everyone last start that it would be a risk at the 1400m and the main thing was to ride him how we have been riding him, keep things simple.
“He has got a very good turn of foot, he showed that as a two year old winning the Silver Slipper, so he was due, but it’s very exciting.”
Beiwacht wins the Golden Rose
James McDonald (Wodeton): “He was excellent. He was very gallant in defeat, stayed on really well and his day will come.”
Ethan Brown (Tempted): “She ran really well. They ran quick time, I feel like she’s probably a little bit more effective over 1200m with a hotter tempo but very good effort.”
Tyler Schiller (Nepotism): “I thought he was a touch disappointing today. He had a lovely run, he was just a ball of anger the whole way. He likes having his own room and he didn’t get that today. It probably showed late when he didn’t let down.”
Kerrin McEvoy (Skyhook): “I thought he ran well. We just had to stride around and sit outside the leader, maybe the drying ground went a little bit against him today.”
Chad Schofield (State Visit): “He found them a bit sharp.”
Nash Rawiller (Rivellino): “He was a touch slow away from that outside draw. I would’ve like a bit more pressure up front, it just made it difficult to pull any ground off them. He kept finding the line for me, Kris (Lees) has probably got the option to go to a mile if there’s the right race for him. He’s a nice horse but it’s hard to give them starts on these tracks.”
Jason Collett (Autumn Boy): “Had a wide run early but disappointing in the straight wasn’t able to go with them when they sprinted. He’s probably looking for further, a mile even ten furlongs.”
Rachel King (Sixties): “Really good run. He’s probably just looking for a little bit further now. He didn’t quite have the same early speed as he had last start, but tough late.”
